In 2005 Xavier Vanneste, son of Mrs Vronique Maes, renovated and restarted the old brewery which had been in the family since 1856. He launched Brugse Zot, a new beer with a unique recipe. Today Brugse Zot is the only beer brewed in Bruges town centre!
The people of Bruges are known as "Brugse Zotten" (Bruges Fools), also known as "Brugse Jonckers"

August 10, 2011 - on draught at Brew Wharf. Nice bubbly gold with a lasting creamy/fizzy white head. Nice tangy aroma - fairly standard Belgian golden ale character, with plenty of yeast and fresh apple. Taste is a bit simpler, less apple, a bit of light dry chablis character, not as yeasty or spicy as the aroma. Solidly carbonated, quick-finishing - not awesome, tasty, refreshing, if a bit simple.

Golden, well sparkling with white head. Fruity nose. Taste is sweet, yeasty, hay, moderate bitterness. Very belgian. Plus for the awsome label.

Unfiltered draft at Bavarian Lodge. A little less exclusive than they let on, I think. But hey: Very clear autumnal amber color, I must still be at the top of the keg. White foam the height of a pennys width. A sniff just a little malt, again with some cherry tartness. Taste starts out with hefeweizen spice. Then some bubblegum esters. Puts me in mind of as wit, but I suspect the brewers didnt care about matching any style. Despite my thinking of a wit or weizen, Im sure its all barley malt. Catching some grains of paradise, apple, and a touch of European hops coming down. Complex, yet understated. And just the right match with the Lodges spicy goulash soup!

Bottle. Golden, small to average and fully diminishing head. Moderate, malty - lightly wheaty and lightly sweetish aroma, fruitiness faint banana and spiciness. Body is light to medium, malty lightly wheaty and lightly sweetish flavor, some fruitiness and light spiciness, faint banana. Finish is short to average, malty lightly wheaty and lightly sweetish, some fruitiness and spiciness, faint alcohol. Lightly sweetish and wheaty ale nothing special, nothing wrong.

Draft. Pours gold with a white head. Spicy yeasty aroma with some light floral notes. The flavor is grainy and pale malty with floral and spicy yeast notes. Not bad.

UPDATED: OCT 12, 2013 One of the most heavily sedimented ales Ive ever had, there are large clumps floating in this. The aroma is of citrus and yeast/bread. The flavor is of citrus and slightly spicy. This was pretty good but the sediment was so heavy that it sort of overwhelmed the flavor with bread in the finish, not a bad thing for a German beer, but sort of odd for a Belgian ale, although not necessarily a bad thing, just different.
