In 2005 Xavier Vanneste, son of Mrs Véronique Maes, renovated and restarted the old brewery which had been in the family since 1856. He launched Brugse Zot, a new beer with a unique recipe. Today Brugse Zot is the only beer brewed in Bruges’ town centre!
The people of Bruges are known as "Brugse Zotten" (Bruges Fools), also known as "Brugse Jonckers"

Clear goldblonc coloured beer with large diminishing white head and lots of carbonation. Hoppy aroma with some fruity hints. Full sparkling palte. Finish is bitter hoppy with a sweet touch. Nice one.

Bottle from Craft Ale. Pours chill hazy deep gold with big fluffy white head. Nose is fruity, hoppy, and peppery, with rock sugary yeast. Tastes very crisp, very tasty, with a front palate of hop bite and funky yeast notes, mid-palate hop blast, and a complex finish. This one surprised me, and was very good. It doesn’t blow you away with hops or Belgian yeast, but impresses subtlely.

Weinig koolzuur.

Cloudy citron-yellow color with fair collar. The musty smell is bad. But the abbey taste is actually nice. Some bitterness, sweetness, flavours of hop. I like it.

On tap in a beer garden in Bruges. Golden lager, wheaty aroma and flavour. It’s ok.

bottle in a pint glass - pours pulpy golden orange with white head and some lacing. Nose is lemon peel and malts. Aroma is caramel malts, citrus hops and an almost wheat quality. Taste is sweet at first and bitter at the end. Finish is medium in length and quite dry. Not what I expect out of Belgium.

Bottle. Clear golden color with a nice big white head. Rather spicy aroma with yeast, fruits and hoppy notes. Spicy-sweetish flavor with a bit of malt, fruits, a hint of caramel, yeasty notes and a drier spicier finish with light alcoholic notes. Medium-bodied. OK.

on [email protected] Halve Maan. (unfiltered version). Golden color, a bit hazy due to the fermentation. Nice lasting tall white head. Spicy aroma. A bit sweet, but very well balanced beer.
