In 2005 Xavier Vanneste, son of Mrs Vronique Maes, renovated and restarted the old brewery which had been in the family since 1856. He launched Brugse Zot, a new beer with a unique recipe. Today Brugse Zot is the only beer brewed in Bruges town centre!
The people of Bruges are known as "Brugse Zotten" (Bruges Fools), also known as "Brugse Jonckers"

Bottle at home, thanks dEnk! Pours a hazy coppery golden color with a thin white head. Fruity aroma with cheap malts and old beer. Slightly watery fruity and bitter flavor. A bit boring in spite of the funny looking clown on the bottle.

A pale colored beer with colorless head. A nice yeast aroma, but in the background you recognise some hops/ A sweet taste with some hop accents but they dont linger. The sweet tast will conquer you senses and stay there. I dont like the happy endings, I prefer a bitter end.

One of the better beers Ive had lately. Real nice and bubble gum like. It had a nice flavor to it that went down very easy. Slightly yeasty I would readily drink this again.

On tap at the brewpub in Brugges. A nice yellow/orange beer with a decent sized head. The aroma is zesty and hoppy. The taste is fresh, peachy and spicy. Not bad at all.

[330ml bottle at The Retreat, Reading] Pale yellow, small and diminishing white head, rather fizzy. The brewers giant wine glass fails to improve the appearance. Flavour has a hint of gammon (like a watered down Leffe Blonde) with some honey behind. Some dusty cardboard from the brewers attic has clearly fallen into the mash tun. Citrus comes through in the finish. Rather bland and fizzy.

Clear dark gold, but downright chunky with flocculated sediment. Very exuberant off-white head. Floral and carbonic notes combine well in the aroma, something of a champagne character. Flavor overall fruity, pear, strawberry, melon, against a yeasty-must background. Very lively palate, but chunks large enough to feel as your drink are a bit much for me.

Bottle from Beers of Europe. Amber pour with a white lasting head. Aromas of burnt sugars, herbs, coriander. Flavours of bitter lemon, grapefruit, some spice, quite fruity. Finishes moderately bitter.
