In 2005 Xavier Vanneste, son of Mrs Véronique Maes, renovated and restarted the old brewery which had been in the family since 1856. He launched Brugse Zot, a new beer with a unique recipe. Today Brugse Zot is the only beer brewed in Bruges’ town centre!
The people of Bruges are known as "Brugse Zotten" (Bruges Fools), also known as "Brugse Jonckers"

AshtonMcCobb (7027) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - MAY 18, 2011
33cl bottle. Pours golden with a light brown towards th head. There is a generous head and plenty of bubbles. The nose has orange and a grassiness. The taste has more orange and maybe lemon sherbet with some herbs on the end. The palate has medium structure, a creamy texture and a refreshing zingy finish. Overall, a good beer!

Draught at Belgo Kingsway, London. Hazy pale yellow, white head. Spicy banana aroma with fruity notes. Fruity flavor, banana, spicy notes.

This beer needs to be drank on a sunny terrace. When served in the original glass it reveals a true colour transformation. Low in the glass, where the glass is thin, the colour is darker. It gets lighter when you go higher in the glas. Because of the shape of the glass it looks like a chameleon. The taste is fresh and sweet and it needs to be chilled.

An average ale at best. I am still convinced that there is something in the water of Brugge that makes it difficult to make an enjoyable beer.

0.33l bottle. Pours a pale yellow body with tons of white floaters and a gigantic fluffy white head. Aroma is spicy, yeasty and notes of grapefruit and wheat. Body is medium and light drinkable and the carbonation is medium to high. Tastes refreshing with a slightly fruity banana-profile, coriander, malty and slightly spicy. Ends in a spicy finish with a slightly sweet and watery aftertaste. Nice enough.

Bottle. many thanks, Beermerchants Poured into goblet glass. White lacing, standard Belgian ale-lager appearance. Aroma is hey; lemon, straw, grass, some metalic edge, nector and flowers. Taste is lemon, hey, grass, flowers, honey, nectar, oily, watery, thin base, creamy, some small ctiric hop bite but just an average Belgian blonde. Easy but nothnig special

Lettdrikkelig, litt mye karbonering. Bra balanse, men litt for lite å balansere! Trenger mere fylde. Kort smak.

rand (1920) - SWITZERLAND - MAR 20, 2011
Bottle 33 cl from Le Grain d’orge in Neuchâtel (CH). Golden with thin white foam, numerous floating particles, laces. Fruity nose of malt, honeyed sweetness, yeast. The taste is rather dry, spiced with citrus. Rather short in finale, stay on citrus, velvety.

nlc (93) - Amsterdam & Rotterdam, NETHERLANDS - MAR 17, 2011
UPDATED: MAR 18, 2011 Pretty weak taste, it smells a little bit rotten. herbs, barnyard, leather, leaves, cooked vegetables, rotten eggs, amber, clear, white foam, medium sweetness, medium bitterness, medium body, thin feel, oily feel, soft carbonation,

Bottle. Hazy gold with a pillowy white head. Smells of spice, orange, and some honey. Flavors of citrus as well, mostly orange, with some estery yeast. Not bad by any means but definately not worth the high price tag.
