In 2005 Xavier Vanneste, son of Mrs Vronique Maes, renovated and restarted the old brewery which had been in the family since 1856. He launched Brugse Zot, a new beer with a unique recipe. Today Brugse Zot is the only beer brewed in Bruges town centre!
The people of Bruges are known as "Brugse Zotten" (Bruges Fools), also known as "Brugse Jonckers"

On tap at t Brugs Beertje. Light mild fruity aroma with a bit of hops. Sweet but not overpowering. Standard Belgian ale aroma, pleasant but not outstanding. Slight bitter aroma, some oxidation. Light golden clear with thin lacing white head. Medium watery body with medium light carbonation. Starts light and quenching with a bit of sweet malt and a light bitter character. Musky grain and light hops. Decent little ale but nothing spectacular.

Bottle. OK, this may not be as good as some trappist beers, but for the most part it wasnt bad. Needs to be tried at least once.

clear orange, large white to offwhite head with lacing. aroma is fruity, faint banana, yellow fruity aroma with grapes, citrus fruits etc. warming up i got more sweetness, more banana, even some peaches. flavor is a bit bitter, notes of yellow fruits, faint citrus, yeast. the flavor is in fact fine, but the yeasty bitterness gets in the way.

Slightly cloudy golden pour with a white head. Mild citrus aroma. Flavor is similar, but contains some mild garbage notes at first. This fades, and the beer gets a little bit better, but remains average at best.

After the beer was served in the glass there was found a lasting quantity not wall adhesive white foam collar which was fine and evenly of structure. The beer also contained much carbonic acid in the glass. The beer has a thick golden color and a light acid taste. The after tast of the beer is hoppy bitter with a fruity touch. This beer smells malty.

The beer that the Brewer gives at the end of the tour should encourage people to want to drink the other beers that the brewery has to offer right? Well, in Belgium, Brugse Zot does not cut it. There are too may beers that are far better then this. THis beers does have a good aroma of citrus from the yeast selection. BTW the tour is pretty good, but very basic about brewing. The old equipment is nice to see.

Draft at De Halve Maan after the brewery tour. Pours a cloudy, dark, orange amber hue with a frothy, off-white head of foam. A wet, soapy wash mostly rejoins the body, though a few scant spots remain behind on the glass. The aroma is based in blonde candy sugar, showing hints of banana, and is spiced with coriander, orange peel, and soft floral hops. Flavors are largely the same, again sweet up front with blonde candy, yet balanced decently on the back end with spicy coriander and dried wildflowers. Mediuml bodied, with lively carbonation, the palate is easy going, finishing clean. Solid spicy blond, but nothing special.

On draught at Delirium in Brussels. Straw colored with a medium large white head. Aroma of citrus and hay. Yeasty flavor with some spice and citrus. Bitter edge. Not bad, but lacks complexity.
