In 2005 Xavier Vanneste, son of Mrs Véronique Maes, renovated and restarted the old brewery which had been in the family since 1856. He launched Brugse Zot, a new beer with a unique recipe. Today Brugse Zot is the only beer brewed in Bruges’ town centre!
The people of Bruges are known as "Brugse Zotten" (Bruges Fools), also known as "Brugse Jonckers"

Poured from a bottle into a Brugse Zot glass. Golden, transparent color. Only the faintest head formed. A very light smelling beer. A hint of pear and other fruits. Taste: Slightly malty, some bright fruits and just clean tasting. Overall subtle flavors but still good. Light and crisp with moderate carbonation. Great beer. Very drinkable, goes down easy but with some nice flavors. All the notes are subtle but still appreciated.

Has some spicy notes but flat? Feels scaled down but yet still has soapy notes.

A: Dark straw with a medium-large white head. N: Sweet malts with a hint of spice. T: Malt complexity upfront. Slightly sweet, but restrained by mild bitterness. Coriander emerges as the lead player in a spice medley. P: Medium to full O: Excellent Belgian blonde

One of my favourite lagers. Belgian yeast, straw and light caramel malts. More subtle and balanced than some Belgian Blondes, but slips down a treat. Lovely drinkable stuff to warm you up for one of the grown up Belgian brews.

Bouteille 33cl, V&B Grenoble.
