In 2005 Xavier Vanneste, son of Mrs Vronique Maes, renovated and restarted the old brewery which had been in the family since 1856. He launched Brugse Zot, a new beer with a unique recipe. Today Brugse Zot is the only beer brewed in Bruges town centre!

I tried this from a bottle at a bar and later on draft at the brewery in its unfiltered form. Aroma is subtle Belgian character, slighly malty with a hints of grass and citrus. It has a thick, long lasting head, especially from draft. It has a satisfyingly full flavour without being overpowering or rich, slighly malty, yeasty, grassy with a smokey aftertaste. The brewery draft version had more bitter bite to it, and a bigger aftertaste that was slightly metallic, you kept wanting another sip to experience it. Very good beer!

Keg at Den Engel, Leek. A clear golden colour with a medium white head. Aroma of Belgian yeast, lemon, clove, some straw, slight orange, peach and subtle herbs. Taste of Belgian yeast, lemon, orange, peach, some banana, clove, slight straw, a little herb and subtle spicy, earthy hops. Medium bodied and soft carbonation. A dry, yeasty, herbal hop bitterness in the finish. A good Belgian ale. Your typical yeasty aromas and flavours as well and herbs and subtle spicy, earthy hops. Good amount of citrus fruit flavours too. An all round good Belgian blonde.

Botella. Color mbar claro. Turbia. Ligero postgusto carbnico. Entra muy bien...

Bottle. Hazy orange with a lively head that leaves scant lace. Aroma is sweet and yeasty. Flavours of cooked peaches and bready yeast, pretty simple but pleasant enough I suppose.

Bottle. Opaque golden colour, bid white dense head. Good retention. Aroma: overripe fruit, cheesy phenols (almost smoky), spicy yeast, berries (I guess cranberries). Fine aroma. Medium body. Lively carbonation. Malts and yeast cooperate to form the flavour profile. It is not as intense as the nose. Fruity. Lightly sweet, spicy. Low bitterness. Good drinkability. Somewhat hollow on finish. Generally a lovely one that may have some questionable points.

Bottle as gift. Pours hazy golden with foamy off-white head. Big citrus hop aroma with pineapple, sherbet and pine needles. Tastes of clean hops with a bready malt presence. Sharp, sparkling body. Nice and light. A pure, clean, fresh Belgian beer.
