In 2005 Xavier Vanneste, son of Mrs Vronique Maes, renovated and restarted the old brewery which had been in the family since 1856. He launched Brugse Zot, a new beer with a unique recipe. Today Brugse Zot is the only beer brewed in Bruges town centre!
The people of Bruges are known as "Brugse Zotten" (Bruges Fools), also known as "Brugse Jonckers"

330ml bottle from the Cheese & Wine Shop Darlington. Pours a slightly hazy light gold amber colour, bubbly white head and aroma is yeasty, malt, lemon, pear. Sharp initial bitterness with lemon rind taste, malty, bready and yeast notes, through to a residual dry sourish bitter finish. Nice, quite drinkable.

Bouteille 33cl, V&B Grenoble.

Pours clear golden/orange with a huge, frothy, white head. The aroma contains malt, hay, grass, some spices and fruits. It tastes medium sweet, ending light grassy bitter. Soft carbonation, slick texture, quenching. What I call an ennobled Pale Lager.

Dark orange, white head. Aroma is nice: sweet fruits, yeast, light coriander. Medium body, light carbonation. Taste is sweet and yeasty. Also lighlty spiced. Profile is same as aromas. Quite enjoyable.

Bottle from Redmonds. Aroma is dry, spice, lime rind. Vibrant bubbles. More citrus going on that some other Belgian blondes, and less yeast and booziness. I really liked this guy.

While not the worst Belgian blonde, certainly not the best. Typical sweet toffee bread flavors, but a bit watered down and without much complexity or finish. Drinkable, but easily surpassable.
