cloudy orange, small orrange head.
malty, dark fruity, slightly hoppy aroma. flavor sis malty, hoppy, yeasty, dried fruits, complex. good balance. JorisPPattyn (10113) - BELGIUM - MAR 26, 2004
Moderate gushing to yellow-tinted head, huge and dense; hazy dark-amber beer. Slight aroma of (sorry) horsesh*t, vegetable, freshly dried hops, farmyard, iron. Hayish flavour, much sweeter than expected from the nose, caramel. Just a faint, metallic hopflavour in the palate. More toffee, probably iron, better masked as in the nose. Medium-bodied, velvety texture. Quite good Belgian speciale, Walloon version. Vies with the best, actually. Dorqui (2299) - Brescia, ITALY - JAN 1, 2006

Balmy and creamy foam, medium duration. Much dark orange color, little bubbly one. Complex aroma; must notes, much winy and flowery. Enough prickly taste though not excessive; notes of soft candy, sweet malty, elevated alcoholic perception. Much perfumed and vinous. Lightly dense and syrupy. With character. oh6gdx (26485) - Vasa, FINLAND - SEP 28, 2008

On draught at na organic ale fest - nice intense copper color. Nose is sweet and grassy. Taste is also sweet / hints of apple, grape, syrup. Does have a faint piney accent.

Draught at Doll Dress. Dark amber with orange. Dry, spicy aroma with lots of grassy hops. Earthy, dry, grassy flavor with a touch of sour. Fruity and very restrained. Not at all sweet, but a bit too sour--old? Crisp body. Decent. Alengrin (5884) - BELGIUM - AUG 8, 2014
Artisanal Wallonian ’spéciale belge’, the classic, almost standardized genre of Belgian amber ales. Yellowish white, irregular, sticky, stable foam, ’real’ deep amber colour, almost copper, misty. Aroma of freshly cut apples, banana, grapefruit, walnuts, caramel, liquorice, cinnamon, leather and a faint smokey accent. Crispy fruity taste, citrussy, caramel malts, in the middle strongly nutty like a pale ale, light smokiness, finishing in a herbal, medium long hop bitterness. Now this is what a traditional spéciale belge should taste like - the great (commercial) icon Palm Spéciale can even learn from it.
