Thanks to BBB63 for this. Pours obsidian, with a massive dark brown, creamy head. Aroma of dark malt, fruit, chocoff, prunes. Tastes malty, with a big chocoff flavor, as well as some cognac, cherries, milk stouty sourness, and wood-barrel spirits, including bourbon and cognac. Medium to slightly firm palate, but not quite as bold as an Impy stout. I call this one the little brother of Stone RIS 2002. Very nice. Buckeye makes some great beers. MRAF ’05. Stated it was a Imperial Stout, so I assume it was a special brew labeled as the Old Mammoth. I rate on however. Pours deep brown with a big time bubbley tan head. Aroma is of earthy hops and cardboard. Taste is rich coffee and malty, with big earthy hop characteristics mixed in. Great hop aftertaste. A great beer on the firkin. zathrus13 (1776) - Mount Laurel, New Jersey, USA - AUG 2, 2005
Dark brown/black pour, with a tan head. Aromas are coffee, chocolate, and roasted malts. Flavor is roasted malt, smoke, chocolate, hops, and a little bit of caramel. Body is on the heavy side, and this works well here. A couple of percent more alcohol, and this would be in the top 50. A really nice surprise from my secret Santa. robinvboyer (4583) - Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, CANADA - JUL 26, 2008
thick black pour, huge tan head. Big aromas of bitter bakers chocolate, roasted/burnt coffee, and hints of vanilla. Flavour is very full bodied, big roasty notes, and some soy sauce. EXcellent stout. MrBunn (2807) - The Wet Side of a Dry Town, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 19, 2008
Bomber. Pour is a thick and dark brown with about three fingers of tan head. Aromas are chocolate and burnt malt with a touch of whisky or anise and charcoal. Flavor is excellent… don’t get me wrong, if you want a big, huge, gigantic imperial stout with tons of alcoholic burn, this isn’t it. Still, it is full-flavored and well-balanced as all of the suspects who presented themselves in the nose are in their full glory in the flavor.

Completely opaque dark dark dark brown with a dark tan head. The head was initially full and thick, but quickly shrunk to a small, tight head that hung on for dear life until the bottom of the glass. Huge roasty tones in the aroma with a definite semi-sweet cocoa, and bitter hops character. The flavor was more sweet, and really left me thinking this was a sweet stout. I swear there must be oatmeal in this recipe, because the feel was extremely silky smooth. I really enjoyed this stout. Thanks Drew! raindog (560) - Evansville, Indiana, USA - MAR 6, 2003
Pours a deep,dark,brown/black with a pillowy, tan head. Nice retention and lacework. Aroma is oily-malty,roasty,somewhat hoppy. Mouthfeel is creamy, and rather thick without cloying. Roasty, oily, sweet, lightly burnt, flavors with a bitter(hoppy)sweet, bready finish. Seems to be some lingering nutty/caramel notes as well. Pretty filling and satisfying.Good stout. Opaque with large frothy brown head and very good lace. The aroma has notes of floral and grassy hops, mocha and coffee, dusty yeast esters, smoky and dark malts, and some tart fruits. The flavor is surprising, lots of grapefruit and bitters, on top of mocha and malty undertones. Some smoky and nutty tones on the finish. The mouthfeel is full for style with a crisp bite on finish. This stout does not fit any style, too bitter for a sweet, too malty for a dry, and not enough punch for an Imperial..but still quite YUMMY! Almost the stout equal to Three Floyds Alpha Klaus. Dark brown with a tan head. Spotty lacing. Nose of alcohol, chocolate, mocha, and bitter hops. Very smooth flavors, chocolate, mocha, and bitter hops and roast. Palate is a touch smoky finishing bitter. JaBier (7841) - Capital City, Ohio, USA - OCT 25, 2008
Sampled at the stout tasting at Blacklick Wine & Spirits on 10/13/08. Pours pitch black with a huge head. Strong coffee aroma with some malty quality. Flavor is an excellent dry balance with a coffee/chocolate finish. Wonderful stout. Between this and the 76 IPA, these guys are definitely an underrated brewery.
