CloakedDagger (2486) - - SEP 13, 2013
Bottle 65 cl. Pours an opaque black with a small, creamy beige head leaving some lacework. A little licorice and roast in the aroma. Medium body, roast and cocoa powder with some warming alcohol. Not overly sophisticated yet still very nice. 130913

Pours a black color with a tan head. Aroma is of roasted malts, chocolate, slight citrus hops. Flavor is stronger of the roasted malts, chocolate, and coffee. Slight bitterness on the finish.

Darkover (1538) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - OCT 9, 2011
Black with a brown head. Aroma of roasted malts, licorice and some dark fruits. Taste is medium sweetness, medium bitterness, with coffee and roasted malts, full body, thick feel, average carbonation.

200th RATING! Bottle, supplied by Drsilverworm -- many thanks! Pours a deeply fixed mahogany cordovan brown with a delightfully creamy head. Smells instantaneously of wet and dry hops, dark chocolates, rose pedals (it’s a floral note that doesn’t seem to characterize anything else), balsamic vinegar; cherries, sawdust and liquorice on its finish. Finally a Foreign Stout that’s easily drinkable, has as much depth in its tastes as in its aroma and put quite frankly, done right. I’ve discovered hops, dark chocolate, milk chocolate, raisins, peppercorn, coffee dregs, liquorice root, walnuts and an aloe vera-like herbaceousness while happily sipping this magnum opus beer.

A quaint roasted malt and burnt office-coffee nose rises from a picture perfect pitch black body. A tannish head laces well down the glass and a palate of coffee, mild chocolate, and noticeable hops packs a punch. Personally I thought the flavor could have been a bit more credible, as the beer does so many things well but lacks in that "a-ha" moment when tasting. Easily one of if not the best FXS that I’ve had, the Zatek 2011-A is an exception to this oft-overlooked style. Just don’t overlook this brew.

Daytonbeer (730) - Ohio, USA - FEB 19, 2012
Pours black with off white head. Moderate lacing. Aroma is light with chocolate and coffee. Taste is better than the aroma. Coffee and lots of dark friuts. Warm going down. Enjoyable Stout.

Wow, thanks Santa, this was WAY more than I had expected. Usual suspects, nice smooth mouthfeel. Nutty, dark chocolate. The backend lingers with that burnt dark chocolate taste forever, really a well done brew.
