Abbey beer, ruby colour, top-fermentation beer, outstanding owing to its soft flavour and fantastic aroma. This beers name comes from the French Capuchins, who had a monastery in Budel at the beginning of the last century.

Bottled. Dark red brown color. Sweet malty and caramelly aroma with notes of plum, raisins and tart alcohols. The taste is sticky sweet and caramelly with raisins, plums, licorice and chocolate. Tart alcohols in the finish. Too sweet and sugary.

(Bottle BB 10/07) Aroma of roasted malt and slight caramel. Dark red brown colour, slightly sparkling and light brown, small size, almost fully diminishing head with very small lacing. Sweet, caramel and roasted malty flavour. Softly carbonated and medium bodied palate. Rather OK brew but nothing special. 19/05/06

Bottle. Malty aroma. Very dark brown colour. Very small, light brown head. Swet, malty flavour, very chocolaty. Thick mouthfeel and low carbonation. The bitterness reminds me of bitter chocolate.

Bottled. Reddish amber colour, mediumsized off white foamy head, laving. Fruits, cocos, caramel and coffee in aroma. Flavour is light roasted malts with some bitter hops and fruits. Also alcohol noteable in flavour, especially the finish. Aftertaste is sweet alcohol and old black coffee.

Bottle (from Bitter Virtue, BBE Aug 06). Fruity with toffee and slight roasted malt aromas (perhaps a hint of liquorice). Quite sweet - perhaps more than is good for it but all the flavours manage to stay together quite well and not get swamped.

Very appealing pour, dark sienna brown/read. Thin but bubly head. Strong roasted smokey aroma, with quite a but of nuts. Somewhat watery. A lot of roasted malts. More complex and flavourful then the other buddles I have had (from a gift pack). Really rather pleasant. Not the best but way more flavour then most macros.

sayravai (4707) - Helsinki, FINLAND - MAR 30, 2006
UPDATED: APR 11, 2006 (Bottled) Clear, pretty, dark red color with a smallish, tanned and creamy head and some lace. Aroma of caramely, sweetish and mildly roasted malt with cherries and a hint of sourness. Caramely, sweet and quite sugary flavor with roasty-ashy, burned malt and hints of alcohol. Slicky-sweet, sugary palate with quite low carbonation. A thin and sugary "abbey brew". Clean and smooth, but also stripped from most character. Dont drink it too cold!

A nice easy-drinking Belgian ale out of the Netherlands. Clear tawny brown capped with a thick cap of tight bubbles. Good head retention and a dab of lace make for an attractive package. Vinous aroma shows raisins soaked in port, plus peppery shiraz and bubblegum. Quite a phenolic nose for a 6.5% abv ale - hint of paint stripper in there. Soft carbonation complements a medium body. Flavours include raisins, cloves and chocolate-coated toffee before a warming rush of alcohol. Bitter enough in the swallow to balance those sweet chewy flavours. (30cl bottle, IBS Perth, bb June 2007)

Bottled. This is, by a country mile, the best Budels beer Ive had. Now that wouldnt be difficult, but this is a really good drop. An amber coloured beer with no head. The aroma is nutty and has really good caramel and chocolate notes. The taste is malty sweet with more good caramel and berry fruit notes. Very tasty and a good body.
