Dark brown, near black colored. Roastiness, mild chocolate, coffee and licorice in aroma with sweetness, fine aroma. Medium to full bodied. Sweet flavored with roastiness, caramel, raisins and mild licorice. Aftertaste lasts with medium alcohol and sweetness. highlandlad (1480) - Blue Mountains, AUSTRALIA - MAR 6, 2006
A nice easy-drinking Belgian ale out of the Netherlands. Clear tawny brown capped with a thick cap of tight bubbles. Good head retention and a dab of lace make for an attractive package. Vinous aroma shows raisins soaked in port, plus peppery shiraz and bubblegum. Quite a phenolic nose for a 6.5% abv ale - hint of paint stripper in there. Soft carbonation complements a medium body. Flavours include raisins, cloves and chocolate-coated toffee before a warming rush of alcohol. Bitter enough in the swallow to balance those sweet chewy flavours. Bottled. This is, by a country mile, the best Budels beer I’ve had. Now that wouldn’t be difficult, but this is a really good drop. An amber coloured beer with no head. The aroma is nutty and has really good caramel and chocolate notes. The taste is malty sweet with more good caramel and berry fruit notes. Very tasty and a good body. (Rating #413) shintriad (701) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 9, 2006
I knew these guys were capable of making a beer that I didn’t want to drain, but this is still very flawed. A bit of head on this amber-brown beer, the same stale lake-water scent as always, with a hint of malt and oak. Tastes sweet and malty, some toffee and raisin, with some astringent hops and alcohol in the finish. Low carbonation but gassy and harsh.

Lovely and clear brown/ruby colour with a light tan head. Dried fruit on the aroma as well as caramel. Salty, liquorice, a touch harsh in the taste which you quickly adjust to, cigarette butts and a touch of spice. This was one of the better ones from this brewery. rederic (3344) - montréal, Quebec, CANADA - NOV 25, 2005
Dark brown color, with a tan-colored head, but falls quickly, sweet roasted malt, dark dry fruits aromas of dates, raisins, hint of chocolate in the nose, follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a malty, grainy, roasted malt, caramelized malt, brown sugar, fruity accent, leading towards a sweet alcoholic touch, and a very light hops impression in the finish. blankboy (7808) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 12, 2005
Bottle shared with HogTownHarry -- courtesy of HogTownHarry. Pours a clear ruby with an average size diminishing light-brown head. Aroma of sweet caramel malt -- the best smelling Budels beer I’ve had by far. Flavour has a nice malty taste with a light bitter finish. Medium body. By far the best Budels beer in their giftpack, I’d actually have it again. HogTownHarry (7065) - Toronto (Harbourfront), CANADA - NOV 10, 2005
Bottle (330ml). Shared with Blankboy - Budel giftpack adventure 6 of 6. Poured deep clear copper-burgundy with a decent off-white lasting head. Aroma of candyish fruity roast malt with mild prunes and raisins. Taste of steeped fruits, light roasted caramel malt, a little bitterness in the finish to balance the sweetness. Mouthfeel is a bit astringent, average body - finally, a carbonated Budels beer. Overall this is pretty decent, the best of the six-pack, but still a pretty ehh brew. Nice ruby body topped with an average beige bubbly/foamy head. Fair malty aroma with light hoppy and woody hints. Its hoppy taste is sharp, well balanced, but may lack complexity. It carries some brown sugar and spicy notes and ends with a decent bitter finish. I am finally done with that Budels gift-pack and this was the only decent sample in the whole lot.
