Gangstergafje (1343) - Capelle aan den IJssel, NETHERLANDS - DEC 28, 2017
UPDATED: DEC 29, 2017 28-12-2017; bottle; at home (bought at beerwulf.com, part of their Sinterklaas box 2017).
The looks of the beer are very simplistic. The colour of the beer is golden yellow. It has a nice golden glow. The beer is clearer than the clearest glacier water. Not a lot of gas bubbles can be seen. On top of the beer some rough white foam is formed. Foam retention is low. Not even a drape is left after a while.
The smell of the beer is fine. There are some sweet malts, covered by the sweet honey. Hops give a spicy note. Yeast gives an in my opinion slightly meat like aroma. There is also a touch of metal. Not the best smelling beer around.
The taste is the same. Some rather thin and watery malts, covered by some honey. Yeast gives a slight bitterness, a bit spicy and herbal. Yeast gives some sweet notes. Again I taste some metal.
The palate of the beer is average. Light body, thing body and medium carbonation. The finish of the beer is short and contains some bitter hops and some sweet touches of honey. All in all, a drinkable beer, but not very good. Low average it is. TomHendriksen (1011) - NETHERLANDS - SEP 27, 2017

Bleekgeel bier met kleine witte kraag die snel verdwijnt. Zoet en prikkelend bij de eerste slok. Aroma van honing, gras en brood. Fris, maar wel wat saai. Te weinig bitter. JefVerstraete (3742) - Oosterzele, BELGIUM - JAN 19, 2016
Bottle. Very clear colour, white foam disappears quickly. Sweet nose of honey with bitter notes. Sweet and bitter, easy drinkable. Not very impressive but not bad.

It has been a long time since I tasted something from this brewery so let’s try this organic honey lager... Found in a Bioplanet store in Destelbergen. Medium thick, creamy, snow white head retaining quite well, over a deep golden beer, clear with a few tiny protein flakes here and there, calmly sparkling. Strange aroma of indeed a lot of sweet honey, but also cheese spread, buttermilk (diacetyl?), grass, ’Haagse hopjes’ if that rings a bell, iron, green apple, perhaps a hint of plastic. Rounded, soft onset with fairly low carbonation, sweet in a dull kind of way, clearly the honey speaking, but low fermentation fruitiness - unsurprisingly, considering this is a lager, of course. A sourish grainy accent comes up and along with a slightly bready pale malt sweetishness, dominates the middle phase, where a metallic hint also plays; the honey sweetness stays, but does not become really cloying or overpowering at any point. Mouthfeel is thin and a bit buttery. A soft and faint grassy hop bitterishness also appears late in the finish, fading away as quickly as it came; a weak honeyish sweetness is all what is left a few second after swallowing. Not a complete failure, but it is clear that honey works better in ales. If I were a pessimist, I’d say this is just another bland lager pimped with some extra ingredient and in that sense related to the chili lagers, tequila lagers and so forth, but it is quite ’honest’ and I cannot say it put me off as much as I had feared. Een enorm lichtgeel bier met een schuimige kraag. Een pilsachtig bitter aroma op de achtergrond. De smaak is lichtjes zoet wat overgaat in een mierzoete nasmaak.
A very, light yellow beer with a fluffy layer of foam. A pilsener-bitter aroma on the background. It tastes somewhat sweet which moves on into a very, to sweet aftertaste.
