DrnkMcDermott's rating

   AROMA 8/10   APPEARANCE 4/5   TASTE 9/10   PALATE 4/5   OVERALL 17/20

UPDATED: JUL 21, 2009 Draft, at the St. Petersburg, Russia airport lounge, May, 2004. Now this is what an "original pilsner" should taste like, not the poor, skunked bottle I rated last summer. Fresh from a well-maintained tap, it’s a fine-looking beer, gold color, with a good head. A golden malt flavor, too, but just mellow enough to let a wonderfully delicate floral hop character come through. The best beer I’d had after a week of standard Russian pale lagers.
And yet, I can see a bit of the flavor lineage to the American Budweiser... let’s just say the St. Louis product is severely de-volved from the prototype.
Original rating: Bottled. Oooh, looks like my first taste of this classic brew is from a skunked bottle. Still, it has a great spicy hop nose and a decent head. I almost got kind of an orangey hop taste. It’s simply more of a beer taste. I’ll hope to try this again soon and re-rate it.

Tap. Clear gold with a medium white head. Some dough, hay, sweet corn, grains, artificial lemon. Medium to high sweetness, short sharp bitterness. Slick body, with lots of soft carbonation. Decent, but very sweet.

0,5lt bottle in Düsseldorf supermarket. Clear yellow beer, thick white foam with low retention. Once opened it smells like hops, skunk and pot. When served, aromas are somehow lost and one can hardly perceive some butter and grass smell. Pils malts, bread, little yeast taste, medium-bodied, very well balanced flavour, carbonation clears off pretty quick. Ending tends to bitter, very drinkable and not cloying in the way you can have as many as you can and never become weary of it. One of the best industrial pils available in Europe and definetly a thirst quenching one!

I acquired this 500 ml bottle at a kiosk in Cologne while on a trip overseas. Pouring it into a pilsner glass I view a medium yellow body with little or no foam although the carbonation is active. The scent tends toward grain and biscuit. I taste water, crackers, a little metal and a very small bit of sweetness. Interesting history, average beer.

Bready malt with lemon and hay in there. Short and sharp in the mouth and leaves a clean palate .

Crystal clear brilliant golden with a thin white head. Nice doughy lagerish nose with a classic light grassy noble hoppy tone that’s slightly earthy. Crisp semidry flavor that’s noble and crackery lagerish, super clean and balanced, but a touch light. Herbal grassy hops to balance but it’s not a strong presence. Clean and classic but just kinda alright.

w aromacie i smaku przeważa słód, ogolnie puste, gorycz jest niska i ziołowo/trawiasta, nie ma powrotu do czeskich piwek z kraftu ;(

500 mL bottle shared with ebone1988. Picked this beauty up at the Spar attached to Graz Hauptbahnhof. Oh boy. The pour is a darker golden yellow with a thicker white head that falls to a creamy thick ring with a couple spots of lace. The aroma is really Czech pils forward. The malts and graininess are huge. Light bready grain and sweet malt. The light aluminum comes through late. The flavor is more bready malt forward. There isn’t any metallic, which is nice. Anlight bitterbuoo is present, and it’s surprisingly better than I thought it would be. It’s got an alcohol sweetness on the back end that is strange. The mouth feel is light and clean with a decent carbonation and a lingering malty sweetness. It’s better than I thought it would be. For science, I guess.

Bottle shared with koleminer20, for the book. Bottle from Spar Grocery in Graz, Austria. Aroma is sweet corn, earthy, bitter, funky, floral, cereal. Appearance is golden, clear, off white head. Taste is floral, cereal, earthy hops, almost savory, grainy, decent. Mouthfeel is light body, dry, light crisp carbonation, grainy earthy hop aftertaste. Overall, this isn’t terrible. 5 4 7 4 14
