COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Prémiový tmavý ležák doplňuje tradiční nabídku piva z pivovaru Budějovický Budvar, n. p. od roku 2004. Je vyroben stejným postupem jako originální světlý ležák, za použití nejvybranějšího žateckého chmele, moravského sladu, vody čerpané ze 300 m hlubokých artéských studní a tří druhů speciálních barevných ječných sladů: mnichovského, karamelového a praženého.

Charakterizuje jej výrazně tmavá barva, suchá, jemně hořká karamelová chuť bez dominance sladkosti. Vůně je delikátní po praženém sladu.

From the 500ml bottle it pours almost black with a mocha coloured head. Soft grassy sweet-dry-sour aroma. Taste caramelly and bready malts with a small edge of roasty dryness, fresh bready sourness. Chocolate emerges. Saaz are classic noble with delicate bitterness and sweet grass and faintly lemony. Very poised medium palate. Munich Caramel and Roasted malts in description agree with my assessment, I’m guessing all legit ingredients no fake malt extract here yes? Better than I expected, cool addition the LCBO!

500ml bottle. Dark mahogany brown with a frothy beige head. Flavors are bready/roasted cereals, burnt toast, molasses and toffee with fruity and light herbal notes. Light to medium body, moderate carbonation, smooth texture.

Out of the bottle, poured a very deep brown/espresso colour, translucent, with a thin off-white head. I got aromas of roasted malts, molasses, chocolate, coffee, dried fruits (like chocolate covered raisin) and wafer. On the palate, repeats of chocolate (more like sweet milk chocolate) and coffee with a relatively short lager finish. Very enjoyable dark lager. Will definitely try again.

500 ml bottle from LCBO, served cool in a tulip glass.

App.: Deep brown-black with a fairly full light mocha head. Aroma: Light to moderate roasted malt, fairly clean, a bit of boiled cereal, no hop aroma to speak of. Palate: Medium body, moderate+ carbonation. Flav.: Light to moderate roasted notes, clean, a bit of wet cardboard; dry with medium-low bitterness and a clean, roasted finish.

Probably a bit nicer fresh. Certainly a clean lager with apparent roasted malts.

500ml bottle. Pours almost black with a mocha coloured head. On the nose, lots of roasted malt notes, light cocoa, faint dark roast coffee, and a bit of straw. Taste wise, raisin, cocoa, a very faint note of tartness, dark roast coffee and darker malts that heads into lots of dry roasty malt notes, more of the coffee, with light bitterness in the long finish. A total pleasant surprise, and for what it cost, it’s a bargain. Thumbs up!

UPDATED: NOV 22, 2016 Aroma of roasted caramel, some dark malts and something sour. Dark, but not black, medium beige head, some lacing. Correctly. Taste is dry, grilled bread, maybe coffee. Roastiness bitter, but on the medium level or even below. Quite watery, easy to drink. Medium body and low sweetness. For me, very similar to german Schwarzbier. A good dark lager, but I’ve drunk better.

Opaque black with a mid sized beige head that retains itself for quite some time. Pleasant pungence consisting of mild roast, dark chocolate, caramel and malt. Light bodied and bubbly. Appeasing flavour containing smoke, roast, chocolate, and malt, with a slight hop and smoke present in the finish. Emphatically smokey and rather nice.

Cobre-oscuro casi negro con tintes granates, limpia. Espuma con buena persistencia, de color canela. Aroma a maltas tostadas, nuez, chocolate, café y ligeras notas a frutos negros, lúpulo moderado-bajo especiado. Maltosa rica en productos de Maillard, notas a café y algo de regaliz. Bien balanceada. De cuerpo y carbonatacion media.
