Hazy rich ruby tinted amber coloured body with a large, soapy tan head that fades relatively quickly. Aroma of malt, caramel, raisins, light soap and a bit of cardboard. Light-bodied; Sharp yeast and metallic malt flavours with a good caramel and toffee sweetness and a mild earthy bite at the end. Aftertaste shows some bitterness from yeast/malt with a little sweetness and a dry, deep taste. Overall, a decent beer, showing a lot of raisins and caramel sweetness, and some unfortunate bitter malt notes too. I sampled this pint on draught at the brewpub in Williamsville, New York in 2005. Dark golden amber but more darker then the pale. Off white tan head. Again wine like aroma and flavour under sweet maple like malts in the aroma and flavour. Somewhat fruity.
