Pour on tap at the brewery, dark brownish black pour with an off tan head, aroma had lots of roast, bready malts, hints of spice and yeast tones, some slight coffee and dark baker’s chocolate, slight dark fruit but restrained. Taste is sweet caramel going right into some bread, roast and spice notes, slight coffee undertones, finishing fairly dry and bitter. Heavy black with a pillowy khaki head, with a pleasingly dark aroma of roasty black grains, earthy toffee sweetness, and a touch of espresso. Smooth sweet flavor with a subtly smoky peaty essence, a bit of earthy bitterness, a wee touch of toffee and espresso, and overriding dark roasty grains. Not shabby, but a bit of a chore to drink after a half-pint.
