From notes. Bottle shared with ebone1988, Gus, and Aaron at Gus’ Birthday V2. 500 mL bottle. The pour is a darker brown-ish ruby color with a thin ring of lighter tan head that lingers from top to bottom, not leaving any lace behind. The aroma is really good. The dark fruit complexity right off the bat really sets the tone. There is a heavy caramel and molasses sweetness to go with it, and a light alcohol and touch of spicy whiskey barrel. The light vanilla comes through, and the balance on this is awesome. The flavor is even better. The fruits and molasses really start off with a bang, letting the sweet caramel come in with the spicy whiskey barrel and a hint of vanilla just follows it up. Amazing. The mouth feel is a little light and oily with a softer carbonation and a lingeringly sweet molasses and whiskey finish. I like this one, a lot! yourilevesque (1829) - Montréal, Quebec, CANADA - JAN 29, 2017
Magnifique produit! SHIG (4956) - Wasilla, Alaska, USA - DEC 25, 2016
Bottle: Poured murky brown bubble. Sticky caramel, bourbon and sweet. Sweet stick caramel, hidden alcohol and malty. after4ever (8025) - Mukilteo, Washington, USA - NOV 1, 2016
Bottle. Thanks, N! Wow, this really is a big hit from way back. I clearly did not realize or appreciate just exactly the scarcity of what we were tasting. So cool, and thanks so much. Pours an opaque dark mahogany with a little bit of dark tan head still hanging around and clinging to the surface, even after all these years. Huge complex caramel, toffee, fig, molasses, and date nose, all kinds of malt sweetness, not unlike the best christmas dessert that you’ll never probably get to have, because you can’t age fruitcakes for 9 years like you can beers. Creamy thick body with minimal (but more than zero for sure) carb. Toffee, caramel, molasses, figs, and dates on the mid palate. Has weathered the years magnificently. Long sweet finish. Thanks to Aaron for the hand delivered bottle just because I hooked him up with some BCBS in Casper.
Pours a hazy to cloudy deep brown colour ala a Thomas Hardy Ale. Small and then no head of foam, no lacing.
Huge caramel malt and dark fruits in the smell with port like notes. Got all of that immediately following removing the waxed cap. That. .got me all excited.
How is the taste, Bitterbill? Exactly like what the smell indicated. Caramel malt that is sweet but not overly so. Dark pitted fruit and that unmistakable taste of Port as in a properly cellared Thomas Hardy. I reckon that this is THE closest to That wonderful elixir the US has to offer.
Sticky full mouthfeel with the gentlest carbonation.
This is absolutely fabulous. Amazing. Incredible.
Easily makes it to my top 5 beers ever. Maybe even number 1. I’ll decide that when I am finished.
Oh yeah, there’s some definite heat to this baby but it is part of the beauty. ctipping (1926) - Florida, USA - APR 4, 2016
500 mL bottle. Murky brown with a reddish tinge. Lots of bourbon. Very oaky and nutty bourbon aroma. Boozy and a little bit of brown sugar. Taste is also a ton of bourbon. Really strong bourbon and oak. Brown sugar behind it. Some vanilla in the back end. Lingering bourbon and booze. Medium heavy. Very boozy, but not very sweet, which I appreciate. onceblind (9419) - Denver, Colorado, USA - JAN 10, 2016
Deep hazy chestnut, no head. Lovely fruity nose with boozy caramel and oak and gentle whiskey. Lovely toffee and whiskey flavor with lots of honey, boozy English malt, dark plum and fruity tones, boozy malty whiskey and fruity British dark old ale finish. Amazing. madmitch76 (24378) - , Essex, ENGLAND - JUN 5, 2011

On tap at the brewpub. Hazy amber brown beer. Low carbonation. Sweet thick barleywine with hints of vanilla wood. Very smooth indeed. Dangerously easy drinking!

Dark brown in color, clear with a thin head. Big sweet aroma oak barrel and whiskey aroma. This was very sweet bourbon flavored with a big alcohol finish. This would be a perfect after dinner drink.
