Pour on tap at the brewpub, dark red pour with thin white head, aroma has notes of caramel, toffee, biscuit, hints of slight spicy and grassy hops. Taste was nice mix of caramel, biscuit and some dark molasses notes, hints of slight grass notes, but not much more. A bit uninspired but tasty. onceblind (10572) - Denver, Colorado, USA - MAY 16, 2011
Clear light amber pour, small light tan head. Sweet creamy aroma, like a doughnut with lemon creme. Tastes like ripe fruits like banana and mango, with some sweet malty tones. Light and estery, not terribly bitter, and big on flavor. Great ale! cubs (10714) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - FEB 16, 2011
Tap @ brewpub. Burnt orange appearance. Sweet amber syrupy nose. Fairly strong flavor with a low carbonated, wine-like mouthfeel. The flavor is somewhat boozy, somewhat syrupy, and strong, almost like a scotch ale. The sweetness and the syrupy flavor turn me off to this beer but I can see how others may appreciate it. Big hop aroma. Amber coloured strong in alcohol hoppy and fruity with a pine flavour. A hint of dryness in a nutty and bitter malt finish. Pawola22 (3262) - Woodridge, Illinois, USA - FEB 28, 2010
On tap at the brewpub. Pours a very pretty, clear, ruby-mahogany body with a thin, light brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves a good amount of lacing. Aroma is thinner bread malts with some dark fruits. A light earthy hop and some toasty, nutty toffees. Definitely an English smelling strong ale. Flavor is similar, but more robust than the aroma. Sweet caramels and toffee with toasty nuts, more earth than the aroma, and some dark fruits. A nice bitterness dries this with a touch of roast and leaves a moderate length aftertaste. Soft, medium body, and round. Overall, a solid English strong ale. Good flavor and balance with no hint of alcohol. Finally, something that stands out from these guys.

This is a solid English Strong - strong sweetness is tempered by leafy bitterness and a warming spiciness - a bit of cherry flavor, roasted nuts, chocolate - a touch of starchiness on the back end is the only thing I find wrong here, but otherwise this is tasty. arrogantb (1402) - Denver, Colorado, USA - JAN 3, 2010
This strong ale appeared a ruby red in my pint glass. The smell was a little caramel. The taste had a cherry cough syrup note. My friend noted that it also tasted like a cigar. Maybe a little sweet tobacco in there. The bartender told me that the ABV was 6% so I don;t know why it is listed as 9%. I couldn’t taste the alcohol. Decent beer but one pint was enough.
