Draft at the source. Dark clear brown color almost black brown head. Aroma of burnt toast and pine. Taste is pine needles dipped in espresso. Very tasty. JCB (3999) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - FEB 5, 2013
On tap at BCBB, Durham. Pretty nice pour, dark brown with some glints of color peeking through. Nice fluffy head, spotty lacing. Loads of roasted espresso and molasses in the nose initially, but the promise of citrus that you get in the taste. Smooth mouthfeel is enjoyable. Long bitter finish tends to accentuate the roasted, dry qualities but there are certainly some bright citrus notes too. Pretty decent version of the style. Pint at brewpub. Ok aroma, roasty, sweet. Chocolate, little citrus, little musty. Clean dark orangy brown color. Good head and lace bitter sweet flavor. Medium body, light creamy mouthfeel, bitter finish. It’s ok, kind of mild in aroma and flavor, looked beautiful. Fine, but not one that wows me. emacgee (4697) - Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA - NOV 1, 2012
Clean opaque black pour with one finger of chestnut brown head. Nose shows a light roast and notes of espresso grounds. Hints of fruit and citrus. Mostly sweet coffee roast. Roasty and bitter chocolate with some spent coffee grounds. Acidic and bitter. Too much on the palate. TURDFERGUSON (4058) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - OCT 15, 2012
Tap at BCBB. Garnet brown with a webby tan lace. Nose is nicely understated ad balanced, light citrus, grass, roasted malts are held in check thankfully. A creamy palate, light licorice and roast, grassy, light coffee, cocoa. Nice stuff and an improvement over their first black ipa.
