3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Hot damn, this is the kind IPA aroma I’ve wanted locally but haven’t really seen. Big fruity mango and papaya in addition to more common citrus and resin flavors. But really more fruity than anything else. Taste adds a bit of citrus zest and some malt backbone. A bit too sweet, but still wonderful.
On tap at BCBB. Very handsome look, as is the case with most of their IPAs. Lustrious bright orange with a substantial presence and a nice filmy head. Very sweet nose, slightly more syrupy and less bracingly citric than my pals seem to have gotten. Smooth mouthfeel, lightly carbonated, comes across a bit slick overall perhaps. Flavors are brightly floral, with some bitter and acidic notes here and there. But while I appreciated the bounty of bright fruit, I found it a bit lacking in complexity. emacgee (4698) - Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA - JUN 3, 2013
Murky glowing mango-skin orange pour with 1-2 fingers of dense khaki orange head. Beer smells like pure pink grapefruit juice, intense citrus zest, cracked pepper, and pineapple candy. Rich grapefruit note in flavor. Acidic fruit skins on the front of the mouth. Prickly zest/bitterness on the flavor. TURDFERGUSON (4058) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - MAY 24, 2013
Tap at BCBB. Pours reddish orange with a small off white head, sticky lace. Really nice nose; super tropical: guava, starfruit, pineapple, grapefruit, some light resin, light cotton candy caramel malt. Flavor is impressive as well, heat is more noticeable along with a bit of resin-y bitterness, but also a strong grapefruit and light tropical fruit presence. I’ve been waiting since BCBB opened for a beer like this. In the words of my boy emacgee, Bossome.
