This Munich-style pale lager is medium bodied and has a nice malt character balanced with hop flavor that does not imply bitterness.

Can at home. Gift from a mate. Sweet but sour apple juice aroma. Medium gold. Virtually no head. Surprisingly bitter when first sampled (although this tones down) , however lurking underneath is a chemical sweetness which I am not entirely keen on. Light. Watery. Soft carbonation. Some crispness in the lead up to the finish. Average lager.

Keg @ Bull Falls. Gold pour with a small head. Nose of light grain and corn. Mild straw. Light crisp malt flavors. Bright carb. Solid PL.

Sampled from the tap at the brewery. Pours a clear yellow with a white head that dissipates the edges slowly and laces. Aroma has lots of corn and hay with a hint of sweetness underlying. Flavor is strong with hay and straw with sweet grains supporting.

Bright saturated gold, compact sturdy layer of foam that sits for a few minutes, and leaves behind arcs of lace. Aroma is mellow and clean, light apple yeast esters, vaguely biscuity and grassy. Taste is similarly mellow and unfettered, simple biscuity malt flavors mix with apple esters, and a crisp grassy bitterness from the Hallertau. Light and crisp, very smooth and clean with a lingering grassy noble hop bitterness in the dry finish. Minimal sweetness, and far from cloying. Easy drinking, true to style, and versatile with food. No one is reinventing the wheel here, its just a clean, well made German lager. Simplicity is underrated and sadly often misunderstood... simple traditional beers can be extremely satisfying. Zero diacetyl, likely a contaminated draft line in the review below.

If this were an artists work, it could be entitled "A Study In Blandness". I did pick up a slight aroma of sweet wet grain. Flavors about the same plus some carbonic tang and a bit of bitter. Plenty of water.

Can - Golden pour with a fizzy white head. Nose is corn, sugar, metal, and light herbal hops. Pretty unpleasant. Taste is similar--lots of sweetness. Feels like Im going to get a headache from this. Didnt bother finishing.

4-pack of 16 oz. cans for $7.69 from Woodmans Market in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Pours a quite hazy yellow with white foam and good carbonation. The aroma is slightly metallic, probably from the can or maybe from the age of the beer. The cans are stamped on the bottom, but cannot be deciphered by the consumer. The taste is light and sweet with little hop presence, but quite a bit of caramel sweetness. This tastes like they used a cheap base malt because it lacks depth and body. The alcohol content is too high for a Munich Helles. This tastes very much like a typical American microbrewed lager beer despite its German name. Decent enough, but I can get a four pack of 16.9 oz. cans of Knig Pilsener for $3.99, Pilsner Urquell for $6.99 and Carlsberg for $4.69. A marginal quality pseudo German beer at this price?

This pours a clear, amber/yellow color with a thick white head. The aroma is malty with a touch of yeast. The taste is smooth and easy drinking. Theres a decent grain flavor with a touch of bitterness in the finish. Rather interesting for the style.

473ml can. Golden pour. A bit on the malty side for a helles, a bit like a strong export lager, it really doesnt have anything special but it is bready, mildly hopped and easy to put down, no diacetyl problem.

Pour from a can. Slightly hazy golden pour with a white head. Slight earthy hop nose. Malt really carries this one away in the taste.
