On tap @ Bullfrog. Dark brown with a tan head. Roasty chocolaty aroma. Sweet malty and nutty with a good amount of spicy German hop bitterness. Medium body with mild carbonation and a smooth finish. Decent beer. DocLock (10970) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 17, 2009
Draft at Bullfrog. Poured ruby brownish with off-khaki head. Nose was caramel malt, grainy, peaty, nutty. The flavors and earthy and malty, nutty, with some brown sugary notes but this one is not sweet, rather it reminds me of a sort of altbier with smidgens of nut brown and old ale in the flavor and nose. Smooth and enjoyable. kramer (6682) - Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 5, 2009
Growler, from brewery. Pours a clear reddish brown body with a one finger frothy light beige head that faded to a patchy covering. The nose is rather dry with some nutty and grainy malt, light hoppiness. The flavor walks the line between a nutty Brown Ale and a very light Porter, some light coffee, roast, and a nice hop bite for the style on the back end. The more I drink the more a slight bit of smoke comes out late as well. Lingering earthy and grainy maltiness after the hops fade. Light to medium bodied with a moderate fizzy carbonation level. Overall a very drinkable and sessionable beer. I generally like their German styled efforts despite their Saison and Sour Ale fetish. auerbrau (3203) - Ithaca, New York, USA - SEP 4, 2009
On tap at the brewpub. Pours a clearish ruby-copper-brown, deeply reddened and with little head. Aroma is a soft, quiet clean plain malt. Flavor shares a similar lack of complexity. Some soft german malts mix up with a bit of hop flavor for a generally drinkable brew. I thought the carbonation was also low on this beer and that the temperature was a little high. Decent, but not exceptional in anyway.
