Deep black pour. The nose is quite earthy and cocoaish. Fairly assertive spicy hoppiness with a touch of soft chewiness. Sweet milk chocolate malt and a lingering earthy/piny bitterness. Flinty/minerally dryness on the back. Pretty nice stuff although it seems a little too hoppy.

In short: A basic roasted stout. Nothing special.
How: Tap at brewpub
The look: Near black body topped by a beige ring of foam
In long: Typical brewpub session stout nose of dark malts. Taste is moderately sweet, a lot of roast, the malts feel grainy, molasses cookies, light cacao sensation, some construction wood. Sharp moderately bitter finish with piney and grapefruity hops. My description could describe a very good stout but overall this beer felt a bit bland. I understand that this is probably the regular “black beer” on the menu. From any other brewpub I would be happy with this standard stout but from Bullfrog I expect more than that. This was my last beer from this visit at Bullfrog. A bit of a letdown as a last beer but it was time to go. I had to draw the line somewhere. This time I drew it next to the entrance door and I used a blue pen that matched the colors in the pub.

Sampled at the brewpub. Pours a watery, opaque black with a thin, beige head. Nose of dark chocolate, light toasted malts, a little yeast. Flavor of chocolate, toasted bread, coffee grounds, brown sugar. Finish is medium bodied and dry. Definitely more of a Belgian, or Euro-style stout.

Roasty aroma, some licorice. The appearance is dark brown, nolt quite black, very little head. The flavor is licorice, roast, chocolate, better than expected. The finish is piney hop bittering. Medium/thick in body. Decent stout, good overall, ok for its style.

Draught, 7.5% at the brewpub. Good roasted aroma, hint of raw liquorice. Black colour, seems unclear. The flavour is nicely roasted. OK sweetness. Good roasted barley bitterness in the finish.

On draft at the brewpub. Pours a dark cola with ruby red tints and a small cream colored head. Aroma of roasted malts, light cocoa, bitter chocolate notes and molasses. Taste of roasted malts, cocoa, bitter chocolate, and light molasses. Smoky aftertaste.

FROTHINGSLOSH (8069) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 4, 2010
Sampled on draft at Zeno’s in State College PA this beer poured a black color with a small beige head. The aroma was somewhat fruity port wine adn a touch roasty - odd but pleasant. The flavor was bitter, woody and roasty with a sherry undertone. The finish was long, dry, roasty and woody. A bit thin in body. Ok.

Part of a sampler at brewpub. Very unique stout though not all that impressive. Found it to be too thin with an odd, slightly sour taste.
