On tap at Capone’s. Poured a deeper yellow color with a frothy white head. Hazy. Aromas of citrus, spices, some funkiness, and musty. Tastes of citrus, citrus rinds, spices, and pepper. Lacing left on glass. callmemickey (4561) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 10, 2010
UPDATED: JUN 9, 2012 A: Pale orange-gold body. One finger off-white cap. Quickly receded and left behind spotty lacing. jredmond (8770) - New York, New York, USA - JUL 9, 2010
S: Floral, with some cutting brett, pepper and lemon. Not much in the way of true farmhouse funk though.
T: A nice floral/herbal saison tea. Lots of different notes going on here. Lemon and pepper are potent as well. Perhaps a little too sloppy considering the complexity of flavors.
M: Medium bodied. A tad on the high-side as far as carbonation goes. Lingering finish with some pepper and brett.
O: Fairly solid. The floral notes are a little grating towards the end of the glass. Not as integrated and refined as Upright Flora Rustica or Southampton Cuvee Des Fleurs
Draft at Capone’s. Pours a hazy yellow with nice carbonation and thin white head. Aroma is tart citrus, spice, funk, and wheat. Mouthfeel is great - very smooth and refreshing with notes of tart, citrus, orange Peel, lemon, spice, and honey. BroSpud (2259) - , Massachusetts, USA - JUL 4, 2010
Part of a sampler at brewpub. I found all the brews to be slightly better than average though I don’t remember specifics for most of them. MrChopin (4305) - Baltimore, Maryland, USA - JUL 3, 2010
On tap at brewery. Hazy blond with a fizzy lacing white head. Heavy citrus with a lot of brett, noticeably bandaid and egg. Bitterness in the flavor and also some lemon and orange. The flowers go almost unnoticed, overridden by the brett even through the yoke finish. Heavy carbonation isolates the brett and citrus aspects, and this comes off as an overly sweet and rather straightforward attempt lacking the spice or dryness I like in a saison.
