On handpump, at brewery. Pours a slightly hazy dark copper to amber body with a small tight bubbled beige head. Old Toad wins on the nose, lots of caramel and toffee with actually less hops than the Old Toad when fresh. Rather curious, the age must have muted a good deaal of the hops. Very mellow smelling. The flavor is Old Toad dominated as well, rather thick and sweet with tons of caramel. Very light bitterness, and minimal hoppiness. This pretty well tastes like an aged Old Toad, not much Edgar showing. Mouthfeel is full, a bit sticky, with a lingering clinginess. Meh, not really a fan of this one. auerbrau (3203) - Ithaca, New York, USA - JUL 3, 2009
On tap at the brewpub. Aroma is super dense caramel and raisin. Well cooked sugars. Pours a orange and sienna, with a little dark brown, edge in golden. Fringe in off-white. Strong. Lots of booze, brown sugar, golden raisins, and some dusty hop alcohol dryness. A little weird and mushy. Juicy.
