On tap, at brewery. Pours a light brown body, clear, with a small off-white head. The nose is rather light, just a bit of nutty grainy malt and some light-brewed coffee. The flavor is much the same, a little on the thin side, but at the same time it’s fairly easy drinking. Some light chocolate malt, coffee, and a toasty grainy malt base, minimal to no hops. Lighter bodied with minimal carbonation, it finishes rather abrupt and weak. Not one of their better offerings, but it wasn’t offensive. auerbrau (3203) - Ithaca, New York, USA - APR 4, 2009
On tap at the brewpub. Aroma kicks back some toasted-oatmeal, rubbery-weird darkness in a slightly strange old grain manner. Pours a clearish mid-brown, with little head. Flavor is unfortunate. A rather generic brown sugar flavor moves into a kind of skanky phenolic and rubbery over-roasted, over-caramel tanginess that is far from desirable. Eventually, this beer is ureaic to me. Too much weird urine-coffee character. I’ve rarely met a brewpub that couldn’t handle the base styles, but makes fantastic "extreme" beers.
