COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The harvest lingers on, the blade still sharp. Weathered and beaten through seasons of wear, the Scythe has our trust when the field grows high. The beacon of utility, our rye india pale ale touches across the vital tenets of beer balance not by muting flavors, but by elevating them. A European crystal malt backbone is lifted by the drying herbal pop of Riverbend Maltís Wrens Abruzzi Rye. ďCĒ hops provide a grapefruit finish that remains curtained by the powerful aroma of blueberry & fresh pineapple, thanks to an exclusive Mosaic dry-hopping. Finish your work, wipe your brow, and reap this delicious reward.

NOTE: All beers labeled as Scythe go under this name.

Type: 16-oz. can Glass: Clear 16.5-oz. Belgian ale tulip From: My friend, Jay Price: N/A Purchased: N/A; Received March 10, 2017 Consumed: March 18, 2017 Reviewed as: American IPA Misc.: Canned on Feb. 23, 2017 Thanks, Jay! Was lucky enough to receive this as part of a 10-beer package sent by Jay. I believe I had heard of this brewery before, but not 100 percent sure. Usually hit and miss on rye IPAs, hoping this one is a hit. Poured a copper amber clear color with five fingers of rocky khaki head. Just a few bubbles coming up from the bottom of the glass, like 1-or-2 few. Excellent spiderweb foamy lacing. Outstanding retention. (Sight - 4.25) Smelled that rye spice up front, along with Mosaic, Citra, red grapefruit, pineapple, dry orange peel, toasty grain, caramel and lightly roasted nuts. Getting that rye spice lingering on the nose, making me thing there were more hops. Leaning toward Chinook or Simcoe, and maybe even Centennial. Will try to narrow it down on the taste. Really nice mix of hops and spices. (Smell - 4.00) Taste followed the nose, getting the mix of hops up front and rye spices at the end. Specifically got Mosaic, Citra, sharp grapefruit, pineapple, orange pulp, blueberry, floral, spicy hops (still leaning toward Chinook or Simcoe, but not Amarillo), lightly toasted grain, caramel malts, herbal, hints of green vegetables and bitter earthy notes. (Taste - 4.00) Medium body. Oily texture. Lively carbonation. Long, spicy finish. (Feel - 4.00) Just a very good rye IPA. Would recommend it for sure. (Overall - 4.00) 4.02 90 A-

Can from Bruisiní Ales. Pours hazy Amber/copper. Main aroma note is rye. Med body at least. Itís not quite dry, mixed fruits, and a good dose of rye. Like rye. Itís pretty bitter. Rye must help with that. Yummy stuff.

Can shared by bhensonb. Pours amber with a thick beige head and a fruity rye aroma. There is a hearty pale malt flavor with a bitter earthy finish. Nicely constructed.

Clear deep amber under a foamy sticky ivory head. Grainy doughy and earthy bitter nose with a bright leafy hop background. Big rye and leafy hoppy resiny flavor thatís got a load of earthy and leafy American hop bitterness with a stern rye spicy touch and a bready background. Just kinda okay. Definitely not bad, itís full and flavorful but itís just a bit forgettable and not up my alley.

Can from Michael (misterburd); cheers, buddy! This is exactly what I want in my Rye IPAs -- itís spicey, bitter, and with a great balance between the earthiness from the malts and a pine flavor from the hops.

[ bottle ][ 1.5oz ][ @Tasting ][ $? ][ Schnapps snifter ][ 03.25.16 ]
hazy orange-amber, thin oily cap with ample lacing. Light cotton candy with faintly orange and resin nose. Thin oily coin palate, plenty of orange and resin mid palate before the short soapy end, more orange and sugar in full palate finish.
