COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A couple of centuries back, IPA was made strong and hoppy to protect it on those long voyages from England to India. These days, we just make it that way because it tastes great.
An intensive five-stage hopping process delivers a rich, robust character, smooth flavour and an inviting aroma. So, while it has all the mighty ‘BAM’ of the original, it’s surprisingly well balanced – a bit like our skateboarding elephant.
Five malted barley varieties, five natural hop varieties, fruity ale yeast and water.

Bottle from bws broadbeach, australia. Deep golden color, white head. Aroma has fruity hops, some leafy notes, some malts. Crispy hoppy taste, some caramel notes, sweet malty notes on the back.

Nice aroma of passion fruit and pineapple as well as faint floral notes with resin. Taste is floral hops, caramel and sweet honey-like fig. Nice moderate lingering bitterness. I do not usually like sweet IPA’s, but I guess this is the exception. An excellent beer.

Flat amber pour. Full toffee malt aroma. Tastes the same with heavy toffee tar body. Strong malt backbone overrides bitterness. Too bold, almost licorice upfront tang, for hops to come through. Nice complexity, but not my preference on style.

I purchased this beer from Dan Murphy’s in Coffs Harbour, NSW. I am a brewer myself and I’m very fond of IPAs, but this was literally undrinkable. I poured it down the sink. It had a terrible chemical / metallic taste that I couldn’t connect with any typical beer flavours.

Dandm (125) - AUSTRALIA - AUG 8, 2016
Pitted against a Mash Copycat AIPA, a comparable Aussie beer. This pours flat, clear mid gold, darker than the other. Smells strong and fruity, less fresh. Some bitterness but masked by the malty character. Overall heavier in the mouth. A bit dank. More complex but I prefer the other.

(Bottle @ O’Reilly’s, Lamington National Park, QLD, July 9 2016) Pours a hazy amber colour with an average white head and a little lace. Aroma of toffee, pine, sweet orange and mixed preserved fruits. Flavour has a robust toffee and caramel malt backbone that makes it rather sweet but still fruity, with more of the candied orange and other fruits, balanced by some pine resin and a hint of grain. Finish is rather dry given the malt backbone, light to moderate pine bitterness. Medium full body with below average carbonation. A bit sweet overall, and a little malty, but quite serviceable. Worked fine in a rainforest lodge.

On tap at Burleigh Brewing, pours a hazy orange with a small white head. Aroma brings out piney hops, some fruitiness, and biscuity malt. Flavour is quite punchy, with lots of fruity hops and some light caramel malt. Dry and fruity, with a nice body. Good.

KeefOz (1838) - Tarragindi, AUSTRALIA - MAR 8, 2016
BB 16.09.2016. Poured a hazy orangey amber colour with a one-finger off-white frothy head that retained OK and laced OK. Carbonation moderate to high with fine, soft bubbles. Aroma with strong pine and grapefruit plus a nice mellow sweet malt. Taste of resinous pine and grapefruit plus hints of malt but not overly bitter; alcohol well hidden. Medium body. Smooth and slightly dry with a lingering nice and pleasant bitterness on the finish.
