Schooner on tap at Australian hotel. Little discernible nose. Murky red/brown beer with minimal film of cream head. Full-bodied and slightly spritzy. Finish is tangy sweetness with a suggestion of chocolate & coffee. Has a tiny hint of tinny/vegetal hops right at the end. Not great but not bad.

Tap at the Australian Hotel. Unassuming at first, but some nice caramel malts appear in the background, and provide some nice dry bitterness throughout.

Tasted 6/12: Clear, medium brown, light head and lace. Roasted malt and caramel aromatics. Dry to off dry, not sour and low bitterness. Light and short. Charred malt flavors and hollow palate.

Draught at the Australian Hotel, Sydney. Pours dark brown with a tanned head. Malty aroma, chocolate and dark fruit. The flavour is dark malt, chocolate, fruit and brown sugar. Medium bodied. A sweet and bitter finish. Not a bad bock just perhaps a little too sweet.

UPDATED: SEP 21, 2008 RE-RATE: Bottle (750ml). Poured dark brown with a tinge of red and an average sized, tanned, dense head which was mostly lasting. Aroma was of milky chocolate with roasted malts, sultana’s, dates, caramel, some raw sugar and a touch of licorice/alcohol. Flavor was of smooth chocolate with, toasted malts, toffee, prunes, muscatels and dry licorice in the finish. Medium bodied with soft carbonation, a dry mouthfeel, thick texture and a good finish.

Had on tap at the Australian apparently in a ’schooner’ it looked good in the glass, lovely dark ruby colour with a slight yeastyness on the nose. The alcohol was quite well hidden by the heavy fruity palate, reminded me of dark raisins, had a slight breadyness to it.
