Tap at the brewery taproom. Clear, very dark reddish-brown body, creamy beige head. Aroma of chocolate with some coffee. Taste is dry to sour, slightly bitter finish. Dark chocolate, touch of coffee. Light body, low carbonated.
Not bad, but too light.

Sample at the brewpub. The beer is a brownish-black color with a medium creamy tan head that recedes slowly. Sheets of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malt and coffee. Light-bodied with a roasty character and flavors of black coffee and dark malts. Mild hops in the background. The finish is sweet with a toasted malt aftertaste. Decent overall.

Served on tap into a UK pint glass at the Roadside Tavern, the only outlet for this beer, Lisdoonvarna Co Clare, Eire - Jan ’12.
Worth also noting that when reviewed (Jan ’12) it is only available on tap at the Roadside Tavern and no bottling takes place.
They are a friendly bunch and whilst I didn’t broach the subject I’m sure they’d be more than hapy to fill a growler or some form of recepticle for you!
Pours to a dark black colour with dark brown hues around the edge when held to the light. A monster finger and a half of creamy white head domiates the glass! The head subsided during drinking but there was still a good half finger in place at the end of the pint!
A Rich roasted malt aroma hit the nose with a hint of coffee.
Rich, slightly burnt malt and sugar on the palate, with a roasted coffee taste in the background.
Good mouthfeel, smooth, rich, creamy,and a most welcome break from Guinness!
Overall a very good stout rich in flavour and aroma.
One thing to point out (along with all the Burren beers), they didn’t detail the ABV on the pump clips and admitted to tweaking production slightly, ’as and when’, so certain batches come out stronger than others!
The older barman simply stated that all the beers are a little stronger than the commercial beers on tap (not very helpful) and the second younger bar man was a little more specific in saying that the ’Black’ was typically in the mid 4. something % range.
