It was created in 1933 by Alfred Dubuisson, grand-father of the present family brewer, Hugues. Its former name was "Bush Beer 24°" (the density in Ballings), but today it is known as Bush Amber. Its amber colour is due to the use of caramel malt in the production process. Its bitter sweet taste provides it with firmness and personality. What's more, it helps digestion.

Bottle. Orangey amber in colour. Malty (toffee & caramel) and Spicy. Fruity (citrus, apple). Rather vinous (sherry-like) and a little syrupy. Alcohol level quite evident and very warming. Very sweet. Dryish hoppy bitterness in the finish. Too sweet and boozy for me. (2008)

Off white fluffy head stayed well on a finely effervescent golden body. Sweet caramel & honey aroma. Full bodied, minimal carbonation on the palate. Smooth, tingly on the back & a little cloying on the aft. Bitter sweet tastes of apricot, under ripe fruit, malt, honey & sugar. This is a very good Barley Wine.

A bottle from Privado in Guting, drunk at home. Aroma: candy sweet, with the malt coming through. Appearance: clear, dark gold, light white lacing. Palate: full-bodied, thckly sweet, soft carbonation. Long, complex but predominantly sweet finish. The booze in this one punches you in the face. Taste: too heavily sweet for me. I like the booze hit though.

Bottle at pater marcus. Clear orange colour no head. Looks like a soft drink. Nose is booze, light banana and bubblegum aromas. Taste is bubblegum, banana and esters. Low booze. Fast finish. Too much booze for me.

330ml bottle. 11.8%. In the cellar for a year. Pours amber with a light haze, along with sediment being thrown around by the carbonation with a creme coloured cap. SMELLS sweet. Caramel, raisin, dried apricots, orange hard candy, faint bread notes, and yeast. Yes. It tastes sweet too, with sultana raisin, various dried fruit, spice, and some booziness that moves into similar notes with hard water, and faint orange peel in the sweet finish. It’s alright, but it’s another sugar Belgian bomb I’m not likely to purchase again.
