Tasted 6/4/2016. Draught at Bush Shack Brewery, Yallingup, WA. Poured a crystal clear golden colour with 5mm of white foamy head that diminished to a collar that laced well. Carbonation low with medium sized bubbles. Aroma very slightly of chilli. Taste has a nice chilli heat with a hint of spice/cloves. Light body. Smooth and soft with a long lasting chilli heat on the finish. Nice enough. ALLOVATE (3002) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - JUL 12, 2011
Tasting from early 2008.Spesh1 (45) - , AUSTRALIA - NOV 20, 2008
Poured a muddy looking, sandy yellow with little life and just a thin ring of white on the meniscus. Looks like ginger beer. A very subtle note of pear and woody honey on the nose. A lot of dusty grain, doughy bread and sourish malt in the mouth all cleaned up by tangy, spicy and acidic chillies in back which begin to dominate to clean it up somewhat. Light bodied with soda-like carbonation that is not too alarming. Ends crisp, heated and considerably refreshing. Something of a strange one, I can’t say it ticks any of the boxes of a beer but it certainly quenches a thirst. Suited to its surrounds here in Yallingup. (On draught at the brewery, Yallingup)
Heavy carbonation, yet head disappeared.
Sweet, light, thin lager.
Base beer good.
Chilli back of throat. Lunkie (1926) - Glen Iris, AUSTRALIA - FEB 24, 2006
Sweet apple aroma? Murky yellow red colour with good head. Spicy apple flavour with bitterness. Fizzy palate. vanvenlo (1860) - Glen Iris, AUSTRALIA - JAN 17, 2006
7 Jan 06 - Slight sweet apple and chilli aroma. Cloudy orange-briown colour, head does not retain and bad lacing. Sweet chilli and light malt flavour. Tangy chilli finish and a thin mouthfeel. Overall - A bit too simple in my opinion.

Down a potholed muddy road in Yallingup you will find this little boutique brewpub and cafe. Very relaxed atmosphere with the feel of a University pub. Selection of about six beers on tap, also made available in bottles. This is the rating for the chilli beer. Amber yellow, clear, foamy head. Fresh aroma of lightly hopped malt (in contrast to the citrus beer). Clean palate of a well-made average pale lager, but with a pleasant zing of chilli heat on the finish. You wouldn’t know the chilli was there until after the first swallow (ie. its not a flavour element at all). Average but enjoyable. mullet (849) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - JUL 1, 2005
Clear amber-gold. No head. Initial aroma is appley with steamy yeast a la megalager but after a while it becomes a lot more like an English pale ale with a fair bit of caramelly malt and light English hop. Slightest hint of chilli but I doubt I would have picked it if the label didn’t give it away. Light caramel malt flavour with a lot of appley fruitiness, ginger and a little tartness. Little bit of English hop character then a pretty decent hit of chilli very late without any real bitterness. I think they’re on the right track for a chilli beer (low bitterness English PA with bitterness replaced by chilli) but it’s not perfectly executed. And lets face it, I’m never gonna rate a chilli beer that high anyway. Nemo (100) - Fremantle, AUSTRALIA - JUN 24, 2004
Light in colour with a creamy head. Only apparant aroma was the chilli - but was that was disappointing low in the taste. Mild, bland beer with an aftertaste of very mild chilli. bluevegie (3073) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - NOV 30, 2003
Looks like a home brewed lemonade, hazy yellow colour with no real aroma besides the chilli. The taste is a little bit soapy and only a little bit of chilli. Went well with my sweet chilli stirfry though. kook (2033) - Perth, Western Australia, AUSTRALIA - MAR 5, 2003
UPDATED: SEP 7, 2004 notes from when tasted (draught) 16/2/03 at Perth Chilli festival:
It poured lovely cloudy golden with a creamy white head. Good head retention. I cant say anything about the aroma as my nose was a little blocked after an earlier experiment with a chilli sauce called "mega death sauce". The taste was much like a generic pale ale. Nothing stood out about it. Sweet lager/pilsner malt taste, smooth mouthfeel, with a hint of chilli flavour aftertaste. No real chilli heat came through. Not much hop presence either. Refreshing at the time, though not what I'd expected. Rerate 1/9: Worse this time, maybe all the chilli at the festival helped it out. Slight metallic hop aroma present, Sweet bland initial flavour with a slight bitter finish. Chilli aftertaste. Thin mouthfeel. Tastes like generic swill with chilli added.
