3.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Good looking dark crimson with a thin hint of lace.
I really enjoyed the smell. Very interesting mix of peat smoke and fruity, like strawberries preserved in a mix of syrup and scotch, with maybe a bit of starch (curious to know if this was due to aging).
Light bodied but full flavored, what comes out the most is a roasted taste. Not boozy at all, it could have used a bit more residual sweetness to bring it all together.
The aroma stole the show, the flavor didn’t quite make the grade for my taste but I still enjoyed quite a bit.
Bottle, purchased at the brewery. Dark brown, mahogany highlights, off white head. Straightforward dark caramel, maybe some peaty traits? Surprisingly thin for 7%ABV. cfrancis (3574) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 16, 2015
Pours dirty brown with small amount of carbonation. Aroma is light raisin, sweet caramel malt with light toffee. Taste is small carbonation, sweet caramel and toffee malts and a slight whiskey. rejtable (2837) - Ontario, CANADA - OCT 6, 2013
Pours cola with an amber tinge, no head or lacing. Nose is toffee, maybe some brown bread. Notes of fruitcake, toffee. Taste is medium sweet, no bitter. Medium body, medium carbonation and a bit of a sticky feel to the finish. jdobbs (411) - New Brunswick, CANADA - JUL 14, 2013
Fresh baking sums it up well. Very dark colour, half inch off white head. Leaves behind a light film on the glass. Heavy pounding of malts upon the first sip. Lightly bitter, balanced very well. Sweet and sugary middle. Ending is rather bitter, almost too much. Very good overall beer, one my favorites from Bushwakker. HeistAlmighty (1156) - Saint John, New Brunswick, CANADA - MAR 14, 2013
Sample at Fredericton Craft Beer Festival. Toffee brown colour with hints of red. Aroma is not strong, brown sugar and fruitiness. Sweet scotch taste and some earthy hops. Body is not too heavy. Overall, reminded me of a light barley wine.

Clear brown pour with almost no head. Aroma of caramel and peaty malt. Good flavor of caramel and peaty malt. The body is light to medium with a liquorous texure and moderate carbonation. Interesting. presario (4925) - Stampede City, Alberta, CANADA - FEB 11, 2010
Bottle. Very light, lasting head. Moderate and light chocolate aroma. Aroma improves as it a) sits, b) warms, c) you drink. Starts out herbal on the lips. Moves back into the mouth with a smoked peat quality. Licorice, pine, peat, molasses. Sweetish and more chocolate and less peat than standard. Very tasty and rich. (Rating #2585) MartinT (10036) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - AUG 12, 2009
My Bottom Line:
Lush peat smoke and fruity caramel aromas delve into simple malt flavors and light tartness in this pleasant Scotch Ale.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A ring of foam surrounds the hazy burgundy.
-The cereal flavors felt limp compared to the truly compelling aroma.
-The body was round, but not too heavy.
-This is a fine beer for those who love sipping on a malty brew.
