The West Countrys favourite beer derives from pure Mendip Spring Water ... notably bitter, clean tasting, refreshingly dry, distinctive, and moreish! Made with 100% best Maris Otter Malt, together with a blend of (never divulged) traditional English Hop varieties. Butcombes only beer for the Brewerys first 20 years, and now bottled to celebrate winning the Silver Medal at the Great British Beer Festival 2009.

Drinkable bitter. Not a great deal of depth to flavour. Smooth and easy to drink.

Bottle. Pours clear amber with a rapidly disappearing head. Aroma is grass, hay, caramel, and bread. Flavor is slightly caramel-sweet malt, with a grassy hops and a little bread in the background. More bitter than your average English bitter. I like it.

From Lidl. Quite partial to Butcombe, this any good? A qualified yes. Classic bog standard brown bitter executed with finest twigs and quality malt. fresh grassy and hay-like hop, lingering digestive biscuit and pecan malt sweetness. The rusted tin can and buttered Hovis nose lets it down a notch. Chocolate and mint as it warms. Russet with a dying cream collar. Some rust in the mouth too. Roasted finish with the bitterness of hop behind. Alright.
