very nice looking brew i must say.clear orange with a thick and creamy off white head that leaves lots of lacing.aroma is very nutty, followed by bananas,,and oranges.flavor is full of nutty characteristics, then follows cotton candy, grapefruit, hair spray, and alcohol.i wonder if butte will ever brew a beer i will really like? rmussman (1701) - California, USA - APR 8, 2009
Sampled in a 22oz. Pours dark brown, from froth but no head. Palate is a bit rough i feel. Still, good brew, good alcohol content. Iffy if i would try again. SuzyGreenberg (1603) - Seattle, Washington, USA - MAR 25, 2008

2008 Bottle - Last bottle of the tasting so notes are a bit scribbley...Pours reddish amber with a medium off white head...aroma is high fruit, high citrus hop...flavour is pretty straight forward, 1-2 punch of pine and caramel malt...definite fire in this bottle that may or may not mellow, but good to try... tokyogoat (1503) - San Diego, California, USA - JUL 17, 2010
A decent offering, well worth the money and i’d possibly get it again. Just didn’t knock my socks off.
better than expected, but still not that great. 2007 vintage.

On draught at Bailey’s Taproom CellarFest 2013. 2007 vintage. Not sure if it’s been aged too long, but it is more bitter and not as satisfying as other barleywines. OK overall though. doubleo (1432) - San Diego, California, USA - NOV 19, 2008
22oz bottle. This beer was surprisingly good. Pours clearish brown/red with a slow building, frothy, offwhite head with good retention and spider web lace. Smells spicy hoppy and caramelly malty sweet. A bit of alcohol on the nose as well. Tastes malty and sweet caramelly with a healthy dose of spicy hop flavors. Pretty hot, lots of alcohol flavor. Pretty solid, classic BW. Full body, good carbonation. Magjayran (1378) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - MAR 25, 2007
Deep red color with a white head. Decent lacing. Malt first type of barley wine with a nose of dark fruits. What holds this one back is it’s lack of flavor up front other than a caramel sweetness and it’s harsh alcohol finish. golubj (1377) - San Mateo, California, USA - MAY 14, 2009
Bottle. Reddish amber pour with very little beige head. Aroma is vanilla tobacco and rich dark fruit / fig. Sort of acidic palate, but good dark fruit / fig flavor. Vanilla tobacco undertones in flavor and mild alcohol and bittering hops in the finish. Better than I thought it would be. CheersMate (1343) - Portland (Sellhood), Oregon, USA - FEB 4, 2009
Very pungent malty aroma. Not a bad aroma. A big haze look with this beer. Not much head on it. Whoa, a very strong taste of alcohol. I generally like some malt with my alcohol, but the alcohol just blasts my tongue. It doesn’t have a horrible taste, but it is not good. I just think the alcohol taste is not hidden at all. I have had strong barley wines, with 12+ abv, but there were other flavors. This one just has an alcohol bitterness, not even a hop bitterness. I just think they missed when it came to using hops and malts.
