Bottle (22oz). Shared with blankboy, gregclow, jerc, mabel & tupalev. Hazy deep orange pour, average frothy beige head. Papery malt aroma with dry slightly stale resin hop bitterness, a hint of dry wood. Sharp, bitter, boozy taste, orange zest and dry resin bitterness - a long, huge dry bitter finish. Average body, stinging carbonation, dryly acidic and astringent, long grapefruit pith linger. Not all that bad. nearbeer (5422) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - OCT 15, 2008
650 ml. Clear, darkish copper with a lasting one-inch foam that leaves a delicate lacing behind. Aroma of butterscotch, sharp grain (like rye), earthy peat and toasted nut. Flavors of toffee, peat, cherry liqueur, pecan, oak and apple. Big aftertaste of bitter wood and pith is a bit harsh. Medium body is silky smooth, and tingly-peppery dry with alcohol, roast malt and bitter-pithy hops. Fairly complex aroma and flavors, but somehow they don’t seem to mesh as well as they should to be an outstanding BW. TomDecapolis (4618) - Milton, Delaware, USA - OCT 1, 2009
Pours a translucent amber with lots of golden notes and a smaller bubbly off white. Aroma of dark fruits, caramel, toffee and brown sugar. Flavor of dark fruits, caramel, toasted malt, toffee, lots of hop bitterness. Bitterness really lingers. bb (9268) - Alamo, California, USA - FEB 20, 2007
Draft. Rich amber beer with a slight tannish head. Low malty aroma with some earthiness. Slight cereal flavor with malt and lemony citrus. Lingering balanced hops and caramel. Still a bit of cereal. medium bodied. Reid (2541) - Salem, Oregon, USA - FEB 26, 2007
Nice looking ale, dark orange, clear with a large thick creme coloured head.
Aroma is pretty faint, but it was was malty, slightly caramel.
Oh wow ..this is a strange flavour! Dark fruits, bitter malty and alcoholic all at once clashing in the first sip Pretty sugary in a sherry sort of way. After the first few sips it settles down into a very malty ,alcoholic taste , though not totally unpleasant.
Actually alright on the palate, a little sugary at times .
Overall a bit of a "train wreck" alright. Maybe this could improve with age.
Though its notvtotally bad now.

(Bottle) Organic beer blind tasting at Brouwers’s in Seattle, March 3, 2007. Thin, white foamy head with a red-orange body. Nose is floral, nail polish. Flavour is highly orange. Hopped and good malt balance. BückDich (5464) - McCall, Idaho, USA - MAY 6, 2007
Bottle: Pours a murky brown color, a little head. The nose is brash with a caramel and bread debacle along with a starchy and piney hop conundrum. Alcohol is up there, and it’s spotted all over the place. Initially, mid drink, full after palate. Lingering. The bitterness sneaks up the rear and overpowers the otherwise tame malt body. Not that great. jazz88 (2679) - San Francisco, California, USA - JUN 15, 2007
Bottle. A dark amber color with a big foamy tan head that quick diminished. A pine, sweet malt, caramel and hop aroma. Sweet (a little too sweet) malty flavor with pine resin and a slight alcohol burn. FezMonkey (268) - Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - JUN 24, 2007
Copper color with a decent sized head. Sweet malt and citrus flavor with a crisp and clean finish. HopheadHans (804) - Bay Area, California, USA - JUL 3, 2007
Draft. Not the most balanced barley wine. Pours with a nice copper color and a faint head. Aromas of alcohol mainly, same with the flavor. Cloyingly sweet and very pronounced alcohol notes withe a bit of malts and caramel.
