This stout beer pays tribute to the Butternuts Brewery’s former life as a dairy farm. It’s a more drinkable version of the Stout breed than its heavy, boorish and smelly European sisters. We use lactose sugar for body and mouthfeel; not too strong, not too viscous at 4.9% abv. Unlike a true bovine it has a malty, roasty aroma and a dry finish but no tail or teats, and leaves no unsightly cow pies laying around the yard for you to step in.

A decent stout. It tastes a little like chocolate milk with a less smooth finish. I liked the cow utter on the label so I bought it, but it’s price may prevent that from happening again.

Can from Total Wine - Henderson. Dark brown pour with fast subsiding head. Aroma is mostly roast grains, some nuttiness. taste also features the roast grains, very minor notes of coffee. Kind of watery.

I had it from the can. It’s milk, sugar, coffee, and chocolate. It’s creamy and a little bitter. This is a standard but solid sweet stout.

Chalky coffee smells. Pours very dark red brown with a thin tan head. Some lacing. Tastes of taosted malt with a relatively short, sour finish. Pretty well balanced but a very basic stout.

Can. Brown pour with light lactic and chocolate qualities. Easily the best of the 4 pack, but mediocre instead of bad isn’t really that much of a compliment. Not as watery, but still lacking body.

Can 355ml @ home
Pours black with a tan head. Aroma has notes of roasted malt, caramel, chocolate, oat, lactose, licorice and hint of coffee. Taste is medium sweet and light to medium bitter with a nice roasted, chocolate, caramel, coffee and not overly creamy finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

Can shared. Pours a deep brown to black with a bit of head. Toasty coffee, roasted chocolate. Like a shwartz. Lacto and roast. Dry, roasty finish.

11.10.2016, 12 oz can shared with friends @ local tasting:
Nice slightly bubbly-creamy mediumlasting head. Aroma is slightly dry grainy, dark malts lactose, roasted grain, caramel, toast, minerals, hay, paper, chocolate. Taste is slightly dry mineraly, weeds, paper, dark malts, minerals, roasted grain, burnt caramel, cardboard, hay, grass. Medium bitterness, harsh watery mouthfeel. Boring.

ClubGonzo (5670) - Bergen, NORWAY - OCT 11, 2016
Can. Pours a black body with a small beige head. Nose is dusty paper, buttery chocolate, licorice and hints of nuts, nougat and biscuits. Taste is coffee, chocolate, nuts, nougat and hints of milky biscuit tones. Full body, medium carbonation. Pretty good, but a bit weird aroma pulls it down a bit.
