A woody herbaceous aroma, with mineral undertones, and notes of licorice. Pours a dark black color with a dark brown color with nice lacing. A smoked licorice taste with mineral and coffee notes. Thick oily feel with a bitter herb finish.

UPDATED: MAY 22, 2017 Super black, very dark coffee brown head. Dense dark roasted malts, concentrated cacao. Good flavour, not quite creamy like but still full bodied. Good stuff. (33cl bottle from tre Gourmet)

nearbeer (5299) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - MAY 16, 2017
330 ml. bottled 01 Mar 2017. Deep black pour with a disc of creamy foam. Nose is char, semi-sweet chocolate, prickly green herb, oats and mocha. Tastes of cocoa nibs, coffee, cookie dough, blackberry and char. Medium-heavy body has a notable roasty/dry slant for such a big malty brew and has a smooth low-medium fizz. Hides the abv well but still ends up kinda sticky.

33 cl, bottled February 1st 2017, so it may be a bit too fresh. Jet black beer, probably bottle conditioned (impossible to see), medium to thin coffe/brownish coloured head, nice lacing. Lovely aromas of roasted malts, toffee, dark chocolate and a touch of coffee and leather, some lactose sweetness also coming through. Full body, creamy mouthfeel. Flavours of all things roasted and dark, with a significant alcohol appearance, making a warming sensation down your throat. A bit too much for me personally. I may buy another one, and store it for 3-4 years, just to see how well it will age.

Lovely stout. A bit sweet and gentle in the roast. Lots of caramel and chocolate. A bit of licorice. Some sweet and some red fruits. Full bodied. Very nice!
