Discountinued in June 2012. Replaced in the range by American Rye which has a significantly different recipe.
A hoppy amber ale, brewed with a mash of Marris Otter, Caramalt, Rye and Wheat malts combining to give a complex peppery flavour. American and English hop varieties provide a delightful marmalade / citrus bitterness, well balanced by the sweetness of the malt.

[cask at the Stockbridge Tap, Edinburgh] Pale brown beer, decent white head. Musty spicyness on the nose from the rye, alongside bready malt and cracker aroma. Get a lot of peppery bitterness on the finish – lovely balance between that and the flowery hops [06062012]

Benzai (16751) - Oirschot, THE NETHERLANDS, NETHERLANDS - JAN 24, 2013
50cl bottle @ home shared with Dutchdrebus. Clear orange color, medium sized lightly creamy white to off-white head that leaves nice lacing. Smell lightly malts, nicely hoppy, lightly sweetish flowers. Taste lightly malts, hops, bitter, lightly flowers and blossom. Fresh, soft carbonation and medium body.

Bottle from Vino Wine, Morningside

Dark amber, quite hazy, frothy white head, some lacing

Aroma - citrus hops, grapefruit, soft orange, sweet fruity malts, fruity caramel, lots of sweet citrus hops, good aroma

Taste - sweet caramel malts. touch of cereal malts, citrus and peppery hops, soft grapefruit, caramel malts don’t overpower the hops, good balance

Palate - soft carb, medium body, smmooth texture, soft bit zesty palate. Finish - bitter spicy hops with caramel malts background, bitter spicy linger

Overall - Really nice bottled beer - it’s not made anymore now so I’ll have to try the American Rye. If it’s better than this it should be really good.
