Dark brown, almost opaque color, small steady beige head. Hoppy nose with hints of licorice. Medium-bodied. Sweetish malty backbone, fruity hoppyness and salty licorice. Quite sweet black IPA. American style, not British of course.

Nice roasty aroma. Mellow rich body. Smooth body, but carbonation a little higher than I like, swirls away though. Nice nuttiness. Not sure where this is aiming as it’s not a black IPA. I guess it’s a good hoppy stout though.Good balance between full stout roast and bitter hops. Aromatics not so extreme, barely fighting the other aspects, not a self-selling aroma at all. But still a nice beer.

Very similar to bottle, but a bit more aroma, both roast and pungent spicy hops. Taste matches that exactly. Covers 7.5% very well. Lovely hoppy stout. We did a comparison to Dark Arts, which we’d previously given 3.7, and while that one smelt better, this clearly tasted better. Overall, the preference was here.
Bottle. It pours a big, creamy, dark beige head over an almost black body. Nice lacings. Roasted malts, coffee, dark chocolate and lots of orange peel and pine cones. It’s full bodied and a bit heavy on the carbonation. Still nice though. Semi-dry. Roasted matls, dark chocolate, hints of coffee and lots of pine cones and citrus peel. Nice hoppy bitterness too, lasting for a good while. Roasted malts and hop flavors in the finish. Sure a nice one, although it’s a bit more dark malty than I prefer my Black IPA’s. 140613 Benzai (16933) - Oirschot, THE NETHERLANDS, NETHERLANDS - JUL 2, 2012
50cl bottle shared with Dutchdrebus. Pitch black color, small rough off-white colored head. Smell is great: malts, roasted malts, hops, fruity hops. Taste malts, lightly some coffee, fantastic hops, fruityness and a lovely bitterness. Wow this is good! Medium body, medium carbonation.

Bottle @ Y.N.W.A Beershop, Kolding. Pours black with a creamy head and lacings. Roast and a massive amount of fresh hops. Pine and grapefruit. Crisp and really fresh. Soft and smooth. Delicious. Scopey (16277) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - JAN 17, 2012
Cask at CBC. It pours cloudy dark brown, with a thin beige head. The nose is charcoal, treacle, varnish, cola and liquorice. The taste is charcoal, roasted malt, sweet caramel, tar, treacle, smoke, wood, liquorice, cocoa powder and a touch of spice, with a long dry-dry roasted finish. Medium-full body and soft carbonation. A tasty black IPA. imdownthepub (15528) - Banbury, Oxfordshire, ENGLAND - SEP 9, 2012
Cask conditioned at Minehead Beer Fest ’12. Black, inky with tan head. Corr heavy, charcoaled malts, deep, full, dry then a playfull hoppiness, tangy and bitter, lasting. A belting great beer, very enjoyable. gunnfryd (15513) - Kristiansand, NORWAY - MAY 22, 2015
