ChrisOs Kook Tasting. Clear dark brown beer. Light frothy palate with light chocolate malt. Decent.
Another one from the old beer vault. Late 2009 probably - blank ’bottled on’ label, but does feature the cryptic ’chart not for navigational purposes’ message. Looks like cola and smells of roasted malt. Taste ranges from bitter to bittersweet. Decent medium body with a bit of starching. Aged well for a schwarz. Who’s idea was it to replace the cool, local Buzzard’s Bay name with the generic ’Just Beer.’ Lame marketing if you ask me. paultheguru (662) - Parker, Colorado, USA - MAR 24, 2011
Poured into a snifter. This schwarzbier pours a rich brown mahogany, with a short head that has a slight tan color to it, that leaves very little lacing. Aromas are of sweet malts and sauerkraut. Taste is slightly metallic, with a sweet malty flavor but mild, with a slight cabbage/sauerkraut flavor. I need some german food with this. Mouthfeel is smooth and easy, and by easy I mean, not heavy on the palate flavor-wise or gravity-wise. Good representation of a schwarzbier. Serious DMS in this one. rubbishystuff (2537) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - SEP 6, 2010
UPDATED: AUG 1, 2016 Part of a beer of the month club selection. Smoother than other black lagers I have tried. Shame it is retired. Serving: Bottle puzzl (3264) - New York, New York, USA - SEP 1, 2010
Bottle pours a darkish black-brown with little head. Roasty espresso notes, coffee bitterness, assorted candies. Dry, mellow body, very chalky, closer to a dry stout than a schwarzbier.

12 oz. bottle courtesy of a trade with Cavie. Pours a clear cola color with a moderate light tan head that lasted through the first two sips and left light lace. Aroma is very malty with a bit of roastiness to it along with some street tar. The flavor is malty with some light roast followed by some moderate roast bitterness at the finish that lingers briefly on the palate. I know these guys are no longer brewing, so I appreciated the opportunity to try this beer. NJBeerman013 (1054) - Hamilton Twp., New Jersey, USA - MAY 21, 2010
12 oz bottle. A buddy of mine gave me this bottle from one of his Beer of the Month packs. It was a welcome gift. This beer poured black as night, without much head to speak of. It had just enough smokey roasted character to be interesting without overpowering it. It has a smooth well rounded mouthfeel and a quiet mellow finish. It’s a shame it is no longer available. jkwalking05 (4745) - Arlington, Texas, USA - MAY 5, 2010
Deep gold in color with a decent sized off-white head. Aroma is of brown sugar, caramel and cardboard. Taste is of malt and a little bread. GAManiac (1946) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - MAR 11, 2010
12oz bottle from shaebs99.
Pours dark, dark brown with hints of copper around the edges underneath a small thick cream-colored head. A hefty collar and spotty lacing linger for a while.
The aroma is heavily roasted black malts with hints of coffee and a light caramel sweetness way off behind the roastiness.
The taste is much more bitter than I was expecting and the toasted malts almost take on a metallic bitterness as the glass goes down. There is very little underlying sweetness, just toasty bitterness.
The mouthfeel is medium bodied with strong carbonation and very smooth overall. It’s just the metallic aftertaste that takes away from things.
This one smells great but the taste doesn’t quite deliver the goods for me. Still good, but the lingering bitterness knocks this one down a notch for me. bu11zeye (13215) - Frisco (Dallas), Texas, USA - FEB 9, 2010
(12oz bottle, courtesy of Cavie) Pours a brown body with a moderate off-white head. Aroma of roasted malt, light smoke, and some soap. Flavor of roasted malt, grain, toffee, and grass with a dry finish.
