A big bold, in your face, malty beer! A touch of sweetness to start, nuttiness to follow and hoppy-ness to finish. Give it a little time and let this beer develop and tantalise those taste buds with its powerful and delectable kick of Willamette hops. A complex copper coloured fusion of distinction. There’s a lot going on with this cheeky little beer, so take your time and sup it up.

Cask at The Anchor, Digbeth, Birmingham. Poured a clear dark amber with a bubbly white head. The aroma is malt and light red berry fruit. The flavour is medium bitter with a spicy pepper hop bitter light barnyard palate and a long bitter finish. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. This isn’t half bad. I’m not a red ale fan (bad experience with that horrible Murphy’s stuff) but this was great. I love drinking back in the UK and this is one of the reasons why!

BlackHaddock (7339) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - FEB 21, 2014
Hand-pulled half-pint in The Lord Clifton, a pub in Birmingham, on 8th Feb 2014. Red hue to this clear copper coloured beer, a thinning white head sat on top. Slightly more malts in the nose than hop aromas: fruity and semi-sweet with a mild citrus bitterness in there somewhere. The taste was also a mixture of flavours, again with the malts just being the dominant factor. Traces of wood and nut flavours mingled with the light malts and fruitiness. Quite a pleasant blend. Medium body depth and with enough flavour to hide the alcohol nicely.

Cask (Gallows Bird, Espoo, Real Ale Festival 2014)
Nice clear red, small loose head. Clean fresh bitter hop aroma. Taste also has clear hops ,whole cones, dusty and resiny. Thinnish palate. soft carbonation. Finish dry and drying. Great hops, nice for a reddish ale, normally reds I don’t like.

Cask at the Gallows Bird, Espoo, Finland. Clear dark red colour with a tiny off-white head. Dry wood, dry nuts, dry paper, mild malt and a touch of hops in the aroma. The flavour is also dry but with a truck load of hoppy bitterness... maybe some malt there too. Unbalanced. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
