(bottle) hazy ruby-brown colour with a frothy light-beige head. aroma of roasted malts and sugar icing, with some light notes of ham, butter, cherries and gunpowder. flavour is mostly the same, lots of sugar icing and debrecziner, with some more light butter and lots of potato starch in the light-bitter finish. medium-bodied with average carbonation. greks (400) - GERMANY - OCT 8, 2015
Bottled, from Landbierparadies. Hazy nut brown, small head. Fruity caramelly nose. Sweetish with light-medium body and clean, oily mouthfeel. Sticky buttery caramel, notes of lemon. Low bitterness. Simplistic and sticky, sub par malt character. Not a beer I would expect to find in Franconia. sound67 (784) - Offenbach, GERMANY - JUN 8, 2015
Maker: Brauhaus Brandmeier, Cadolzburg, Germany
Beer: Cadolzburger Rotes (bottled, unfiltered, 500ml)
Style: Amber Lager/Red Ale
"Our master brewer’s own favorite. A new beer specialty made from three different types of barley malt. A special malt provides the distinct red colour and the dominance malt in the taste." [brewer’s note, my translation]
Colur: Dark copper, hazy, smallish beige head.
Nose: Red berries, hint of roasted malt, faint sweetness.
Texture: Medium body, still a tad watery. Slightly grainy.
Taste: Very fruity, of red berries, at first - with a hint of vanilla. Wee bit of roasted malts, with muted berry fruit, in the middle. Rather weak, slightly malty finish and aftertaste. No bitterness at all. Lasting hint of vanilla.
Impressions: Enjoyably fruity at first, but there’’s no hop bitterness for balance. A good-looking beer, but not as impressive as its makers think it is.
