rauchbier (3949) - Isle Of Beer, Lincolnshire, ENGLAND - MAR 11, 2012
Can, from Tesco Scunthorpe. Insipid brown colour, no head and low condition. Traces of sweet caramel in the nose, soft and sweet in the mouth with a slight toffee note, some chalky bitterness emerging in the finish to break the monotony but otherwise hardly worth the effort.

berkshirejohn (6758) - Bracknell, Berkshire, ENGLAND - MAR 9, 2012
440ml can from Tesco. Mid brown with a thin white head; musty malt aroma; thin with a sweet malt flavour; and a caramel malt finish. Drinkable, but not on a par with the bottled 2.8’s at Tesco.

swooper (1254) - Cambridge and Kladno(Czech Rep.), Cambridgeshire, ENGLAND - FEB 18, 2012
can, light hoppy and malty aroma, not very stable foam, amber colour, clear, medium bitterness, not nice failure ..hard wort taste..not good. light body, thin feel, soft carbonation, nothing special. I will stay at their Dark Mild instead

Hugh (215) - Zillebeke, BELGIUM - FEB 13, 2012
4-pack 440ml cans from Tescos. I chose this to try an example of the new 2.8% abv beers, and because I inferred from the ’Calcutta’ and ’Pale Ale’ that this might have the higher hop rate of an India export beer that would make a 2.8% beer palatable. Wrong! It’s bland and wishy washy, tasting like a 50% mix of quite a good bitter and water. Unlike other reviewers I did not find any metallic notes in the beer. But how’s this for an idea, Cains - use some hops to give the beer flavour.

DruncanVeasey (8401) - Nr NUNEATON, Warwickshire, ENGLAND - FEB 7, 2012
4pack from the plush new Beduth MegaTesco. Handsome can- bonus point for the elephant. Best thing about this metallic, messy piss of a beer. Not pale but russet with a slim off-white lid. Orange barley sweets, raffia, smear of honey aroma. Metallic with caramel, barley sweet, wooden and biscuit notes. Finishes with a poisonous, paracetamol bitterness. No idea what I’m going to do with the other 3 cans of this- I won’t be drinking them. Flat and watery, with metallic off-notes. Not a good advert for this new sub genre of 2.8% beers.

ralphdot (1093) - Billingham, Durham, ENGLAND - FEB 5, 2012
2.8% amber colour with a thin head, flowery hop aroma, malt and hop taste and bitter, not too bad.

stravale (3145) - Co. Westmeath, IRELAND - FEB 2, 2012
Can from Tesco
Light brown amber...clear...white head
Aroma of light malts
Taste of light malts...cereal...light biscuit...hint of spicy hop...papery....dull
Palate - thin body...watery. Finish - increased bitterness with a metallic edge
Overall - Bit better than Tesco Value Bitter but that’s it.

Not really a pale ale as its more like a low alcohol bitter, taste is malty and biscuity
