2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Very sweet, malty smell. Smooth and creamy. Obviously very low alcohol, almost tastes like a coke. Much darker than I was expecting.
Poured into a perfect pint.
4.25 A: Clear dark brown color. Two and a half fingers of creamy/frothy tan head. Retention is very good and a short ring of lacing is left.
3.75 S: Roasty toasty graininess with a hint of ash. Overall quite dry with notes of chocolate, nuts, and caramel. Touch of mineral to round things off. Decently powerful for a beer of its size.
3.75 T: Like the nose, there’s a lot of toastiness with some roasty component. Dry with a moderate bitterness. Chocolate, nuttiness, mineral and caramel form a subtle complexity. Again, a lot going on given the ABV.
4.25 M: Lighter body. Good moderate carbonation with a surprising amount of creaminess. Super smooth, well done.
4.0 D: Pretty good beer to reach for if you are in the mood for a dark session beer. No real complaints.

I had a bit of a heavy night of it last night and so as a consequence I wasn’t after anything too challenging today. I thought "Ooh, mild, that shouldn’t hurt me too much." Well, I was a little surprised at how dark it really was. It verges on black with some ruby port in the dimple and has a thick skim of head that looks creamy with a tinge of green. The aroma is of dark caramel, chocolate and cocoa with maybe just a niff of rum? Thickish and creamy texture with sweetness aplenty. It has its charms this beer, but in my current state it is a little heavy going, even for the laudable lower alcohol content.
I don’t think my review does this beer a disservice though. On any other day I would still enjoy its flavour just as much. Brigadier (3695) - Chagrin Falls, Ohio, USA - DEC 12, 2013

I am a little disappointed in not getting to try something from the area while in England but that is a good reason to go back. In the meantime this county tick is a respectable beer if you still happen across it. It is nothing special and being transported across the ocean does it no favors. That said I have had worse mild ales.
Aroma / Appearance - Velvety chocolate fluid pours easily into the pint glass. A mocha head remains from the vigorous pour. Chocolate cream pie, sweet malts, and gentle roasted notes accent a mostly balanced and low key mild.
Flavor / Palate - The body is a trace thin even for a mild ale. Cool coffee and inexpensive chocolate alternate the primary focus before a soothing low key finish. Fading quickly there is not much left after the final sip. If you want a fair representation of the English mild style this does a good job. However there are certainly better offerings out there when on the other side of the ocean.
500ml can from The Beer Cellar. Super black in colour with a big frothy head. Roast malt aroma with a thin mouthfeel. Big flavour for a small alcohol content. GT (10000) - San Diego, California, USA - SEP 15, 2013
16oz can thanks to devman! Clear brown. Smaller creamy coffee head. Nose is fruit juice, cherry juice box, cinnamon perhaps. Taste is watery, metallic, apple skins, mild coffee. Pretty decent creaminess as it warms. Lactic dairy character, mild chocolate milk. Not so bad. devman171 (1221) - Annapolis, Maryland, USA - SEP 8, 2013
From a can, aroma is light roast, taste is nice and dark and mild... Nice pub style ale Aggie80 (818) - Michigan, USA - SEP 2, 2013
Surprisingly light flavor enjoyed several one a sunny afternoon. Dark pounds light head.

I’ve been working my way through a sixer of cans and haven’t regretted the purchase in the least. The principal character here is how watery and thin the body is, even for style, but that’s overcome by quality of flavor. Nose is sweet with dark roast and a little chocolate, taste much the same with a strain of nuts. Pours deep brown-black with a creamy, dense light brown head. Body, despite the thinness, is ultra-smooth and nearly as creamy as a widgeted nitro offering (it’s not). This is incredibly repeatable, easy-going without childishness.
