Bottle. Deep, clear, browny amber. Some ginger on the nose in amongst the sweet maltyness. Flavour is LARGE malt. Fruity sweetness with a definite hoppiness. Well rounded. I like it.

Ok had this in both cask and bottle, with both pretty similar. Deep ruby colour, with a malty nose, malty with a little spice , a little teacle and quite fruit with a little bitter in linger. nice and complex just like the man says

500 ml bottle. Edinburgh, Scotland.
Clear copper colour with average size fluffy light tan head. Some strange sweetness, fruits and herbs in interesting aroma. Flavour is mildly bitter, some fruity hops, sweetish malt and hints of metal. Might be also thistle, but Ive never tasted a thistle so Im not sure. Enjoyable tasty Bitter.

500ml bottle. Pours a clear, dark chestnut, with a medium light beige head, which lasts fairly well, and leaves decent lace. The aroma blends burnt toffee malt, fruity hops and an unusual floral aroma, which I assume derives from the thistle. Slightly spicy hops up front mix with an astringent light herbal taste, which I am again assuming is a product of the thistles. These flavours give way to smooth, dark malt in the body, with rye bread, toffee and some fruitcake notes detectable. Light floral hops and more of the herbal taste linger in the finish. A strange but satisfying beer: strange because of its unusual flavours and satisfying because its production involves killing thistles, ugly and vicious plants as they are.

Medium light brown with thick tan head. Butter, caramel, flowers, ginger and malt smell. Bitter taste all the way through. Medium body with soft carbonation. Soapy. Hot ginger, burnt toast and sweet malt. Goes down with flavour.

Ruby red, medium off-white head. The aroma is an interesting blend of ginger, herbs and malty sweetness. Thistle and malt in the start, ginger and hops in the finish. The aftertaste is more thistle and bitterness. Body is a bit watery, the balance is a bit off, but this is an intriguing beer nonetheless.
