Slightly appley aroma. Deep red, small loose head. Some mushrooms in the taste, and black tea. A bit stale. Not bad, but not good. Should have a fresher one if I can.

Cask conditioned at a Wetherspoons. Brown with slight head. Caramel, thick syrupy toffee, mouthcoating and really quite off putting. Didn’t get any further than that flavour really.

Cask @ JDW Elgin
Dark chestnut brown...thin off white head...good lacing
Aroma of dark caramel malts...bit of roasted malt...no hops
Taste - caramel malts...some toasted malts...hint of chocolate...bit of bitter hops in the background...bitter burnt toast comes through in the middle
Palate - soft carb..thin to medium body. Finish - bitter lingering roasted finish.....rather over burnt and a bit harsh
Overall - a bit above average....the finish lets this down
On tap at JDW in Edinburgh airport. Pours dark, amber and hazy with a proportionate head. The nose has biscuits and dark chocolate. The taste is like a bitter with burnt biscuits on the end. The palate has a medium body, a medium thick texture and a slightly burnt finish. Overall, it started average and went slightly downhill thereafter.

Chelmsford Winter Beer Festival. Loads of beers shared with ChrisO and Harrisoni - Cheers! Clear dark brown beer. Residual tan coloured head. Dried fruit and mild toffee malt in good balance. A decent autumnal ale. Dry finish.
Cask (gravity dispense). Beer #8 at Chelmsford Winter Beer Festival on 3 February 2011. Listed as Bards Ale but probably the same beer as Scottish Bard? Dark copper colour. A bit old ale like. Some lactic notes. Decent.
