Aroma is absolutely heavenly - smoky with firm tones of quality coffee, molasses and sweet chocolate and a hint of licorice. It pours a deep, rich, warm opaque sable with a thick dark tan head that leaves some good lacing. Mouth filling flavor has a decided mocha core, quality coffee and chocolate plus licorice, molasses and even a bit of hoppy bitterness. Smooth flavor has a firm and biting fizz, and it leaves a smoky, slightly bitter, tingly finish. Bottle from Nathaniel’s. Pour is great looking for an IS, dark dark tan head, reddish. Thick head, leaves spotty lacing. Nose is anise, oak, leather. Taste is tootsie roll, licorice, and mocha. Bomber from Capone’s. Pours oily turbid deep black with about a finger of brown head. Nose is complex; a medley of rich chocolate and munich malt, cacao, licorice, peppery hops, and figgy fruit, which I know now is dates. Tastes rich on the palate with amazing complexity. I got choc malt, smooth cacao, licorice, dark fruit, and backup hops. This one is absolutely delicious, and is a standout.

Dark brown, almoust black with a one finger high brown, fluffy, head.
Nose: Dark dry chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, licorice, milk chocolate, chocolate cookies - a LOT of chocolate here! Cocoa, red berries and some green apples deep down! Fat milk, plum and coffe beans. This is so complex! I could stay for hours just smelling this beer!
Taste: Espresso coffee, coffee beans, dark bitter chocolate, roasted notes, cacao, fudge, caramel, oak, a little bit of licorice and a dry bitterness.
Mouth: A full, complex body with a high bitterness. Creamy and very smooth.

On tap at Baileys Taproom in Portland. Pours an awesome black with a hefty tan head that lingers with solid lacing. Aroma hefty with pepper, chocolate, smoke and a light booziness. Flavor is heavy on smoke with chocolate, a pine hop character and a nice peppery bite. My 100th! Pours black and viscous with lasting tan head. Great nose of chocolate, molasses, tobacco, caramel, and vanilla. Thick and chocolaty with a more pronounced carbonation presence than expected. More coffee than the nose would suggest, but it’s welcome. Hints of dried fruit in the finish...the licorice? Carbonation is the only issue I can find, but it’s a small one. Divine nose, great taste, and sticky body more than make up for it. Excellent.
