UPDATED: FEB 12, 2012 Pours a hazy light brown with a tan head. Aroma is of smoke and coffee. Taste is also smoke and slight cocoa/coffee flavor on the finish.

Bottle: Copper coloured, hazy, firm and stable off-white head; intense sweet malty-smoky nose with a fruity-hoppy background; moderate to solid sweet flavour, a delicate bitterness is barely detectable, full bodied, as expected; slightly lingering sweet-fruity finish with a mild bitterness in the aftertaste. (bottle, 65cl) Hazy, copper colour with a beige mid-sized foamy head. Sweet malty aroma with notes of smoked ham, also flowery and fruity accents. Sweet and delicately bitter flavour, medium bodied with a soft carbonation. Initially sweet and fruity malty taste with notes of berries, cherries and a present smoky ham character; sweet and fruity finish with moderately smoky notes. 650 ml. no date evident. Clear ruby-copper with a thin film of cream. Nose of molasses and bacon. Tastes of smoked meat on the front, turning to some caramel cola and a return at the finish to smoked bacon. maybe some wheat in the long finish. Medium bodied and sweet-biased, both of which makes for a worthy vessel to support the welcomed onslaught of smoke. Medium brown with just a thin head. Kind of dullish, ugly brown. Moderate beech smoked with some of those toffeeish malts you associate with this type of bock. The malts aren’t so nice on the palate, though. You still get that toffee note, but the malts are thin...no liquid bread...and the smoke suffers for it, as it doesn’t come across the palate as beautifully as in the best examples of this style.

I hadn't had a rauch in awhile and then I saw Caldera Kettle Serie's Ür Bock Rauch for around a thousand yen for 650ml and figured I had to pick it up.
Pouring a beautiful reddish Amber brown with a thick light beige head that lingers.
The aroma is smokey honey glazed ham with some rich stone fruit notes.
Full bodied with a raspy carbonation and a semi-sharp finish. The taste is smokey, oak, ham, honey, malt richness.
I think Fujizakura tops this but it's a solid example of the style.
