3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Poured out of a bottle into a tulip glass. Lots of bubbles, almost transparent, rust-red color. No head.
Smell: Smoky, smoke smoke. Smells like right after I get the BBQ going but before I throw any meat on the grill. I also get a green olive scent at the beginning.
Taste: Smoke. Burnt wood. Sweet malt at the end. No bitterness at all. I think the smoke mellows out the intense malt sweetness that usually accompanies a bock.
Very crisp, it is a lager after all.
A good beer. There are not too many smoked beers made, so for that reason alone I tried it. Well worth it, though it was not my favorite smoked beer.
22 oz bottle.
Dark mahogany body that throws up a fluffy, off-white head.
The aroma is smoke and toffee malt.
The flavor is sweet with light smoke.
This needs a deeper more rounded maltiness that is a bit less sweet and with a bit more smoke for my tastes. chrisv10 (18495) - DENMARK - JUL 3, 2017
Bottle, 7.4%. Hazy amber with medium tan head. Aroma is malt, caramel, toasted, smoke, hop and a little meat. Flavour is malt, caramel, toasted, medium sweet, smoke, little bonfire, little meat, hop and medium bitter. pivnizub (10808) - Bochum, Porř, GERMANY - MAY 5, 2017
Bottle: Copper coloured, hazy, firm and stable off-white head; intense sweet malty-smoky nose with a fruity-hoppy background; moderate to solid sweet flavour, a delicate bitterness is barely detectable, full bodied, as expected; slightly lingering sweet-fruity finish with a mild bitterness in the aftertaste. Surely good, but too much on the sweet side... MoritzF (10095) - Ottobrunn, GERMANY - MAY 1, 2017
(bottle, 65cl) Hazy, copper colour with a beige mid-sized foamy head. Sweet malty aroma with notes of smoked ham, also flowery and fruity accents. Sweet and delicately bitter flavour, medium bodied with a soft carbonation. Initially sweet and fruity malty taste with notes of berries, cherries and a present smoky ham character; sweet and fruity finish with moderately smoky notes. Nice one, perhaps a tad too sweet. 28.IV.17 nearbeer (5603) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - MAR 20, 2017
650 ml. no date evident. Clear ruby-copper with a thin film of cream. Nose of molasses and bacon. Tastes of smoked meat on the front, turning to some caramel cola and a return at the finish to smoked bacon. maybe some wheat in the long finish. Medium bodied and sweet-biased, both of which makes for a worthy vessel to support the welcomed onslaught of smoke. Medium-high carbonation is a bit much for my tastes, but it mostly remains smooth and probably helps more than detracts in this brew.

Medium brown with just a thin head. Kind of dullish, ugly brown. Moderate beech smoked with some of those toffeeish malts you associate with this type of bock. The malts aren’t so nice on the palate, though. You still get that toffee note, but the malts are thin...no liquid bread...and the smoke suffers for it, as it doesn’t come across the palate as beautifully as in the best examples of this style. Clear, light brown with off-white head. Aroma is smoked ham. Under that I can find notes of toasted malt and fruityness. Flavour is fruity, smoky and light bitter. melush (4718) - SPAIN - OCT 8, 2016

T: Malt, smoked bacon. Evilkniamhel (1039) - Oslo, NORWAY - SEP 16, 2016
Bottle from appellation wines dalry road. Nose of smoked sausage, red fruit, burnt toffee. Taste is more of the same, lovely. KansaiBeerLvrs (5372) - Kyoto, JAPAN - JUL 8, 2016
I hadn't had a rauch in awhile and then I saw Caldera Kettle Serie's Ür Bock Rauch for around a thousand yen for 650ml and figured I had to pick it up.
Pouring a beautiful reddish Amber brown with a thick light beige head that lingers.
The aroma is smokey honey glazed ham with some rich stone fruit notes.
Full bodied with a raspy carbonation and a semi-sharp finish. The taste is smokey, oak, ham, honey, malt richness.
I think Fujizakura tops this but it's a solid example of the style.
