It is a proper RIS . A great bourbon barrel notes it its sweet and full bodied. With great carbonation. Pleasurable.

Bottle from BevMo! in Redwood City, CA. Aroma is dark chocolate covered cherries, flat bourbon and coke, cocoa, slight licorice. Taste is tangy cherries, dark chocolate, tangy Porter vibes, dry finish. Surpringly low ABV with lots of alcohol warmth. Dark chocolate cherries with tangy dryness.

UPDATED: AUG 17, 2017 A deep dark stout with a thin brown head. In aroma, sweet fruity chocolate malt with loads of vanilla, bourbon barrel, licorice, pleasant. In mouth, a nice sweet chocolate malt with light coffee notes, vanilla, alcohol warmth, light bourbon barrel notes, light cookie, very nice. 8-3-8-4-15

Pretty impressive for an 8.8%. Malty, burnt caramel aroma, with toffee and smokey vanilla flavor. Highly overpriced however ($17 per bottle); and not quite on par with a standard Bourbon barrel aged RIS.

Pours black opaque with foamy dissipating light brown head. Malt aroma is rich and takes on toasted toffee, caramel, coffee, milk chocolate, supported with bourbon-like gentle alcohol note, burnt sugar & dark fruit esters. Flavour follows aroma: gentle roasted grain, intense malt note, which takes on toasted toffee, caramel, coffee, milk chocolate, supported with dark fruit esters (plums, resins, prunes), fruity, herbal, gentle spicy hop flavours and moderate medium bourbon-like alcohol notes. Vanillin (vanilla) note is very low also astringency. Hop bitterness is medium. Finish is dry. Body medium, texture velvetly, carbonation moderate. Well...I truly do not bealive there’s only 8.8% abv. Once again it smashed me...

Pours dark brown with a strong bitter aroma. Bitter malts upfront with a sting from the bourbon hitting the roof of your mouth. Sweeter finish. Bottle.

Black pour with a thin beige head and light sticky lacing .... aroma of dark fruity yeast, oak, bourbon, roasted malts, berries, chocolate and molasses ..... taste is a bit acidic, dark fruity yeast, berries, dry oak, bourbon, vanilla, roasted malts, chocolate and molasses .... has lots of dry oak character and the bourbon is a bit on the thinner side ... bitter bite on the back end with lots of lingering bourbon and dry oak in the finish ..... body is on the medium side .... reveals nice balance as it warms and the abv is hidden well ..... solid offering, but definitely on the thinner side

650 ml. with an annoying plastic wax coating. Pours opaque with a lasting film of light brown cream. Nose is booze, dark bread, cookie dough and a bit of coffee. Flavors of caramel, toasted dark bread, whiskey, barrel, soy and espresso. Maybe hints of oats and berry as well. Heavy body is smooth with low-medium carbonation and has a decent balance, but shows a little more booze than expected at 8.8% abv.

MelvinKalksma (1725) - NETHERLANDS - FEB 2, 2017

Heavy aroma of malts, caramel, wood, bourbon, vanilla, chocolate, mocha, roasted malts and coffee.

Opaque black beer with a slight/medium brown head.

Starts medium/heavy sweet with malts, caramel, wood, bourbon, vanilla, chocolate and mocha; ends slightly bitter and dry with roasted malts and coffee.

This beer is intense, complex and balanced. What a super subtle bourbon flavour, creating a perfect balance with the roasted malts already present. Some of the dark fruit and molasses flavours from the original are lost for me, but it is still amazing; especially for its abv.
